Behavior-based safety testing

Principle 17 Behavior-based safety is a continuous DO IT process with D = Define target behaviors, O = Observe target behaviors, I = Intervene to improve behaviors, and T = Test impact of intervention. [Pg.483]

The explosive was exhaustively characterized for thermal behavior, impact sensitivity and electrostatic discharge sensitivity etc. Based on this data, CP has been described as much less sensitive to accidental initiation than primary explosives such as LA but at the same time, initiation grows rapidly to detonation when properly confined. Its performance evaluation in a test detonator or hardware indicates that CP can replace primary explosives in many hot wire detonator applications especially if safety considerations are of prime importance [239]. [Pg.135]

So far, most interest has been focused on the dinitramide salts of nitrogen bases, particularly ADN. ADN starts to decompose slowly at 85°C. A vacuum stability test showed that 0.88 ml of gas per gram were evolved from a sample over a period of 40 hours. Despite this instability, it has been demonstrated that ADN-based formulations fulfill the military stability requirements at 80°C. However it is unlikely that ADN could be used in any military or commercial applications above its melting point. The rate of decomposition and its autocatalytic behavior conflict with safety considerations. [Pg.394]

The basic method of distillation (ASTM D-86) is one of the oldest methods in use because the distillation characteristics of hydrocarbons have an important effect on safety and performance, especially in the case of fuels and solvents. The boiling range gives information on the composition, the properties, and the behavior of petroleum and derived products during storage and use. Volatility is the major determinant of the tendency of a hydrocarbon mixture to produce potentially explosive vapors. Several methods are available to define the distillation characteristics of petroleum and its various petroleum products. In addition to these physical methods, other test methods based on gas chromatography are also used to derive the boiling point distribution of a sample (ASTM D-2887, ASTM D-3710, ASTM D-5307, ASTM D-6352). [Pg.39]

The regulations do not give the employer authority to take any action, other than stated above, against a driver based solely on the driver s behavior and appearance with no test result. However, the employer may take other action independent of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulatory authority. [Pg.71]

According to Degussa, Separion separators have an excellent high-temperature stability, superior chemical resistance, and good wettabihty, especially at low temperatures. They tested the performance and safety behavior of Separion separator in 18,650 cells and found the performance to be comparable to polyolefin-based separators. [Pg.382]

A key component developed as part of the VSTL is irrrproved vehicle self-awareness. A number of automated safety arrd health-based behaviors have been implemented to support simple, reliable, safe access to flight testing. Several command and control applications provide an irrterface between the operator and the vehicles. The level of interaction includes remotely piloted, low-level task control and high-level mission management. The mission management apphcation was used to explore opportunities associated with health-based adaptations and obtain some initial information. [Pg.107]
