Hydrodynamic principles for gas bearings are similar to those involved with Hquid lubricants except that gas compressibility usually is a significant factor (8,69). With gas employed as a lubricant at high speeds, start—stop wear is minimized by selection of wear-resistant materials for the journal and bearing. This may involve hard coatings such as tungsten carbide or chromium oxide flame plate, or soHd lubricants, eg, PTFE and M0S2. 

There must be sufficient clearance between the journal and bearing in order to allow an oil film to form. An average diametral clearance of 0.001 inches per inch of shaft diameter is often used. This value may be adjusted depending on the type of bearing material, the load, speed, and the accuracy of the shaft position desired. 

To combat this problem, soft materials such as Babbitt are used when it is known that a bearing will be exposed to abrasive materials. Babbitt metal embeds hard particles, which protects the shaft against abrasion. When harder materials are used in the presence of abrasives, scoring and galling occurs as a result of abrasives caught between the journal and bearing. 

Diaries and desk pads bearing a number of advertisements are considered to be professional publications and may include abbreviated advertisements for medicines. Similarly, video programmes and such like sent to doctors etc may be considered professional publications and an abbreviated advertisement may he affixed to the side of the video cassette or included on the box containing the video. The prescribing information must, however, be made available for any advertisement for a medicine appearing on audio-visual material or in an interactive data system or on the Internet, including journals on the Internet. Such advertisements cannot be deemed abbreviated advertisements.

Journal bearings made of a modified APD material have substituted rolling bearings in friction joints of drying drum wringer rolls and other equipment exposed to hostile media at 60-90° C temperatures. The service life of APD-based bearings exceeds that of roller bearings 1.5 times with a cost reduction factor of two.
