Sodium hypochlorite is also a disinfectant. When you use a liquid bleach solution to wash the bathroom floor or the kitchen counter, you are taking advantage of both the disinfecting and bleaching properties of this chemical. By oxidizing molecules in the outer surfaces of bacteria, a disinfectant is able to disrupt the structure of the cells and kill them. [Pg.206]

The term hard surface covers a wide range, including kitchen preparation surfaces, bathrooms, floors and glass. The formulations of the cleaning products for each of these subsegments differs and, in some cases, very different technologies are available for the same end use. [Pg.177]

For instance, you can pave your bathroom floor with octagons and squares, just as well as hexagons (or Penrose tiles, if you want five-fold symmetry). But that introduces angle strain. In two dimensions the only way to get a strain-free, trigonal array is through the familiar honeycomb net of graphite. Does this mean that there are no alternatives to graphite Not at all what it means is that all such arrays, if they exist, must be inherently three-dimensional. [Pg.380]

Laminates. Laminates are made by pressing paper or cloth saturated with MF resin under pressure and temperature onto a core material. Laminates are used in cabinets, furniture, kitchen countertops, bathroom countertops, flooring and various types ofpaneling. [Pg.306]

Poor sanitation conditions in kitchens and bathrooms. Although the housing situation of urban and rural residents in China has greatly improved in recent years, per capita usable floor area still is low, especially in kitchens and bathrooms. In addition, ventilation throughout many households is poor. Serious air pollution and high moisture exist in kitchens and bathrooms. [Pg.252]

The products discussed above touch us in every moment of our lives. We wake in the morning to an alarm clock in a polystyrene case we arise from our polyester blend sheets and slip on a pair of slippers glued with polyurethane glue. We flip the polymethylmethacrylate light switch and walk across a Nylon carpet to the bathroom. Our polymethylmethacrylate toothbrush is sitting on the Formica counter top. It has Nylon bristles. The soap we use to wash our face may be hydrocarbon derived sodium lauryl sulfate. We walk to the kitchen with polyvinyl chloride floors and sit at a Formica table. The polyethylene milk carton is at hand to supply the milk for the cereal stored in the polyethylene bag. It is eaten from a urea formamide bowl. The frying pan has a phenolformaldehyde plastic handle and a Teflon interior coating. [Pg.26]

I "willed" to follow her -- I don t know how else to describe it it s not the same way one sets out to walk. I "floated" across the room and down the hall behind her - a sensation like no other You just "think" it, and you re in motion On the way down the hall, I could see the half open door of a real (not a dream) bathroom -- towels hanging over a shower door... sink... toilet... some items of clothing crumpled on the floor. [Pg.25]

Detergents for cleaning various household surfaces are considered specialty cleaners. These include all-purpose cleaners for floors and surfaces, and cleaners for bathrooms, kitchens, toilet bowls, and glass. [Pg.13]

To illustrate the problem for the product developer, one only has to enumerate the soils and surfaces. The soils can vary from simple dust and hair to dirt, hard water spots, and fingerprints to hardened grease, soap scum, and excrement. Although the usual household cleaning tasks are concentrated in only two rooms of the house, kitchen and bathroom, the number of different surfaces encountered are many. In the U.S., for example, there may be Formica , ceramic tiles, grout, lacquered wood, vinyl flooring, painted surfaces, brass, stainless steel, enamel, porcelain, aluminum, chrome, glass, marble, methyl methacrylate, and other types of plastics. All of these materials may occur within only two rooms of the same home ... [Pg.557]

Polyester PC is used in various procast and cast-in-place applications in construction works, public and commercial buildings, for the manufacture of sanitary engineering, cladding of composite pipes in bathrooms and toilets, stairs, and chemical-resistant floors [2,6,7],... [Pg.7]

At the Teheran airport there was no one to meet me, and the telephone operator, a soldier of the Iranian Army signal corps, spoke only Persian. I rode downtown in a taxi and a bad humor. The latter was not improved when I reached the hotel to find that I had a large dark room, with the toilet on the floor below and the bathroom on the floor above. Also I recalled that I had been specifically warned by George Polk not to use water from Teheran taps, not to drink it or brush my Teeth with it or even let it get into my eyes. I began to be unhappy. [Pg.92]

As described in Chapter 1, the original silica-filled unsaturated polyester mortar, called Vitroplast is used as a grouting composition for joining bricks for filling cracks, as a monolithic floor or wall coating, and as a casting composition for articles, such as drain pipes and bathroom fixtures. [Pg.63]

PVC flooring materials are widely used in hospitals and schools, and domestic kitchens and bathrooms, where they offer a wide choice of colors and patterns, ease of cleaning, good cushioning, insulation, and reasonable price, the last three features representing advantages over linoleum. [Pg.762]

The consumption of polypropylene carpet in West Europe is about 0.5 MT, which is about 50% of all flooring materials for 2.6 billion sq.m. It is second to 3.6 billion sq.m, for nylon, whereas polyester is only used for bathroom rugs. Among the flooring materials used in West Europe, tufted carpet accounts for 60%. Among 500,000 tons of polypropylene carpet, tufted carpet accounts for 150 KT, machine woven, 130 KT, needle-punched, 100 KT, and carpet backing, 100 KT. [Pg.146]

I once inspected a toilet facility at a mine in a foreign company, and in the only bathroom found that the only urinal s outlet pipe was disconnected at the bottom, and everything that went in ran out onto the floor. The miners were literally walking around with wet boots, yet the management didn t waste any time in telling me that the employees had an attitude in regard to safety. [Pg.140]
