BASF targets

Companies that choose the former approach radically refocus their entire business portfoHos via extensive mergers and acquisitions, like Hoechst or ICl. Those selecting the smoother transition, such as BASF, target their efforts at strengthening existing core businesses through operational excellence and selected M As. 

This article examines the progress being made in methods of converting plastics into chemical feedstocks. BASF is setting an ambitious pace with its feedstock recycling programme with a 1996 target date for a 300,000 t/y plant to be fed with waste plastics from the DSD/DKR system. Since its discovery in 1909, the elucidation of its structure by Karrer in 1931 [5] and its first total synthesis [6], vitamin A has represented a challenging target molecule for chemists [7], The first industrial synthesis of retinol was performed at Hoffmann-La Roche (H-L R) [8], followed by other approaches of the Baadische Anilin- Soda Fabrik (BASF AG) [9], and Rhone-Poulenc (R-P) (today Aventis) [10]... 

Within the chemical industry, two percent of revenue is an accepted IT cost benchmark. Another paper was focused more on biokinetic features, and their affect on final biological properties [8j. In 1999 a general review summarized the historical evolution from natural products to commercial strobilurins up to trifloxystrobin, and the international R D competition, including some dramatic patent races [9j. Additionally, strobilurins have been reviewed in Russian, Chinese and Indian journals [10-13]. 

For routine evaluation of structure-activity relationships at the target level we used at BASF an automatized test with yeast submitochondrial preparations. To ensure that individual results were comparable, all test series included a reference standard, the enol ether stilbene, to which the I50 value obtained for a test substance was referred [Eq. (1)] ... 

In contrast to the charged INH inhibitor used for the co-crystallization experiment, all of BASF s in-house compounds presented in the above-mentioned 3D-QSAR study are uncharged. Therefore, a second docking study with a neutral uracil derivative (UBTZ, Fig. 34.11) should clarify how ligands without acid function bind to this target site.

BASF offers Hexamoll DINCH, a series of di-isononyl cyclohexane-1,2 dicarboxylates, targeted at toys, food packaging and the medical device market. They are said to be free of reproductive effects, genotoxicity or sensitisation.
