Forward/backward connections

Rational Self-Governance at One Point in Time Here are some conceptual connections applying to a person at a moment in time. I call them the backward and forward connections (Pears 1984 Gjelsvik, forthcoming). I take these principles to be true descriptions of those of us who possess this capacity for critical, reflective, rational self-governance on the occasions we exercise it. It articulates rational self-governance at a particular moment in time. [Pg.34]

The interblock communication can be implemented several ways, depending on the manufacturer. One way is to configure specific forward and backward connections as shown in Figure 2.46. The forward connections are as follows ... [Pg.198]

These authors studied how tube models with reptation dynamics could be turned into a full theory of viscoelasticity. To do this one needs to describe the dynamics of the primitive path. Let the primitive chain make one step in time At. Define a random variable, (t) which is + 1( — 1) if the primitive chain moves backward (forward). Let p be a random vector of length a which is the new position of one of the ends of the primitive chain after one move (see Figure 23). Since the primitive chain is assumed to be made of N points R, . Rjy, connected by bonds of constant length a, the Langevin equation of the primitive chain is given by... [Pg.41]

This is Point s [51] equation (1), which he derived by simply postulating a net forward rate for folding, C,. We followed Di Marzio and Guttman s [143] derivation because it illustrates the way in which C, is connected both with the microscopic forward and backward rate constants. [Pg.284]

The thermodynamics of the overall reaction thus provides a connection between the reaction orders for the forward and backward reaction orders. [Pg.23]

Art that renders chemical concepts visually is an important way of sharing insight with our readers. Chemistry involves ceaselessly crossing backward and forward across the bridge that links the imagined (our models) and the perceived (our observations). We have designed the illustrations in this text to help students make that connection. [Pg.27]

A coefficient of 2 is intimateiy connected with the approximate nature of the derivation, i.e., a one-dimensional random waik with ions being permitted to jump forward and backward oniy. More rigorous arguments may yieid other vaiues for the numericai coefficient, e.g., 6. [Pg.380]

From a center within myself, lines of choice radiated out in all directions. The forward radiations were lines stretching into the future, and the backward lines the memories that connect us to the past. We were in the still center of what William James called the theatre of simultaneous possibilities. ... [Pg.218]

After link templates have been defined, operational forward, backward, and correspondence analysis rules can be derived following the TGG approach (see d) of Fig. 6.5). If the link templates are restricted to using only context and non-context nodes connected by edges, this derivation can be performed automatically. If further graph transformation language constructs (such as paths, set-valued nodes, etc.) are used, not all operational rules are deterministic. As non-determinism is not supported by our rule execution approach, in this case the TGG rules have to be postprocessed manually. This is done by the tool builder, as only few domain knowledge is required. Another manual task is necessary, if attribute assignments have been defined that cannot be inverted to match the derived rule s direction. [Pg.617]
