The intent in this chapter is not to present in great detail the mathematics behind the statistical methods discussed. An excellent reference manual assembled by the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG), Fundamental Statistical Process Control, details process control systems, variation, action on special or common causes, process control and capability, process improvement, control charting, and benefits derived from using each of these tools. Reprinted with permission from the Fundamental Statistacal Process Control Reference Manual (Chrysler, Ford, General Motors Supplier uality Requirements Task Force , Measurement Systems Analysis, MSA Second Edition, 1995, ASQC Press. [Pg.380]

This document is not really a standard, in that it was not developed using a consensus procedure. It is a set of requirements, in addition to the ISO 9001 requirements, that have been developed by the Automotive Industry Action Group. The actual set of requirements were developed by representatives of Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors in 1994. The second edition was pnbUshed in 1995 and the third edition published in 1998. The clause structure corresponds to that of ISO 9001 1994. In fact the ISO standard is printed in italics within each clause, while the additional requirements are in roman letters. Since 1994, the document has been printed in five langnages in at least 63 countries. The original equipment manufacturers in the automotive industry have required their suppliers to be registered to this document in order to sell their product to them. [Pg.1973]

The Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG), for example, requires the use of FMEA in the automotive APQP process and publishes a detailed manual on how to apply the method. Each potential canse must be considered for its effect on the product or process and, based on the risk, actions are determined and risks revisited postcompletion of such actions. Toyota has advanced this even further with its Design Review Based on Failure Mode (DRBFM ) approach. [Pg.102]

In Chapter 10, Three- and Four-Dimensional Numerical Risk-Scoring Systems, comment is made on FMEA publications issued for the semiconductor industry by International SEMATECH and for the auto industry by the Automotive Industry Action Group. [Pg.132]

Automobile Industry FMEAs DaimlerChrysler, Ford, and General Motors are represented in the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG). FMEA teams in those companies, working under the auspices of the Automotive Division of the American Society for Quality (ASQC) and AIAG, developed a reference manual titled Potential Failure Mode and Effects Analysis FMEA, currently in its third edition. Excerpts from the manual are reprinted here with permission from the FMEA Manual (DaimlerChrysler, Ford, General Motors Supplier Quality Requirements Task Force). [Pg.167]
