Automotive glass performance

Borealis has developed a high-performance short glass fibre reinforced polypropylene (HPGF) family that has the technological and economical potential to replace long glass fibre (LFRT) in highly stressed parts for technical automotive applications. [Pg.841]

STYRENE-MALEIC ANHYDRIDE. A thermoplastic copolymer made by the copolymerization of styrene and maleic anhydride. Two types of polymers are available—impact-modified SMA terpolymer alloys (Cadon ) and SMA copolymers, with and without rubber impact modifiers (Dylark ). These products are distinguished by higher heat resistance than the parent styrenic and ABS families. The MA functionality also provides improved adhesion to glass fiber reinforcement systems. Recent developments include lerpolymer alloy systems with high-speed impact performance and low-temperature ductile fail characteristics required by automotive instrument panel usage. [Pg.1557]

Polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS), polycarbonate (PC), and PUR are the most common foams however, PP foams can provide favorable properties at a lower material cost. PP is stiffer than PE and can perform better in load bearing or structural applications. The low glass transition temperature of PP compared to PS provides increased flexibility and impact strength. Use of PP foams include packaging, automotive, insulation, and protection of underground pipe. [Pg.343]
