Attention/awareness direction

Stimuli and structures attract or capture attention/awareness. when you are walking down the street, the sound and sight of an accident and a crowd suddenly gathering attract your attention to the incident. This attractive pull of stimuli and activated structures may outweigh volitional attempts to deploy attention/awareness elsewhere. For example, you worry over and over about a particular problem and are told that you are wasting energy by going around in circles and should direct your attention elsewhere, but, in spite of your desire to do so, you may find it almost impossible. 

For complex structures, we should probably also distinguish among (I) inputs and outputs that we can be consciously aware of with suitable deployment of attention/awareness, (2) inputs and outputs that we cannot be consciously aware of but that we can make inferences about, and (3) inputs and outputs that are part of feedback control interconnections between structures, which we cannot be directly aware of. Further, we must allow for energy exchanges, as well as informational exchanges, between structures.(back)... 

The systems approach stresses the importance of attention/awareness as an activating energy within any d-SoC. Yet if we ask what awareness is or how we direct it and so call it attention, we cannot supply satisfactory answers. 

Attention/awareness can be volitionally directed to some extent. If I ask you to become aware of the sensations in your left knee now, you can do so. but few would claim anything like total ability to direct attention. 

Be aware of listening style differences. Females listen attentively with direct eye contact nodding and vocalizing which males often misconstrue to mean agreement Be clear when expressing the difference between "I hear you" and "I agree with you."... 

The properties of a unidirectional fibre will not be nearly so good in the transverse direction compared with the longitudinal direction. As a material in service is likely to be subjected to stresses and strains in all directions it is important to be aware of the properties in all directions. The transverse direction will, of course, be the weakest direction and so it is necessary to pay particular attention to this. 

This labeling requirement recognizes that the last line of defense in tampering is the consumer. The consumer must have his or her attention directed to the specific feature intended to indicate tampering. If the consumer is not aware of the feature, irrespective of its physical characteristics, the consumer remains unprotected. The three elements of tamper resistance are the label statement, the indicator/barrier, and the distinctive by design feature for the indicator/barrier. 

The position of all witnesses (immediately before, at the time of, and immediately after the occurrence) should be documented. Special attention should be given to determining (if possible) which direction the witness was facing at the time he hrst became aware of the occurrence. The investigators should determine by what means the witness first became aware of the occurrence. The investigators should attempt to determine and/or confirm what each witness could or could not see from the positions they were in throughout the occurrence. The investigators should...
