Association with immunomodulators

Since rheumatoid arthritis is associated with a disturbance in the immune response as well as an increase in inflammation, the 2-phenyl analogue of rohitukine (8) was also tested in various models associated with immunomodulation [13]. 35% inhibition of oxazolone-induced delayed-type hypersensitivity and 27% inhibition of plaque-forming cells were achieved with a dose of 5.0mg/kg in rats but no effect was observed on... [Pg.134]

Inflammation and autoimmunity often are associated with the destruction of bone, but the molecular link between these two processes had long been unclear. The role of bone in the generation of immune system cells is evident since they are formed in the marrow housed within the bone however, the role of these cells on bone is not so clear. RANKL and RANK were described initially in activated T-cells and in dendritic cells, respectively, where they have functions in the regulation of cellular lifespan and immunomodulation (Anderson et al. 1997 Wong et al. 1997). Recently the term osteoimmunology has been coined to describe the link between the immune system and bone (Arron et a. 2000). Several data support this idea ... [Pg.179]

OPIOIDS ANTICANCER AND IMMUNOMODULATING DRUGS - CYTOTOXICS 1. Imatinib may cause t plasma concentrations, with a risk of toxic effects of codeine, dextromethorphan, hydroxycodone, methadone, morphine, oxycodone, pethidine and tramadol 2. Unpredictable reactions may occur associated with hypotension and respiratory depression when procarbazine is co-administered with alfentanil, fentanyl, sufentanil or morphine... [Pg.472]

Tenenbein 1992). More important from the perspective of immunomodulation is the abuse of so-called room odorizers or volatile nitrites. These compounds—such as amyl nitrite, butyl nitrite, and isobutyl nitrite (IBN)—produce vasodi-lation of the cerebral vessels, resulting in euphoria (Haverkos and Dougherty 1988) and a reported enhancement in sexual function. Initially used clinically in the treatment of angina pectoris, their use appears to be prevalent in the homosexual community and may be associated with Kaposi s sarcoma (Newell et al. 1984). Use of these compounds has been demonstrated to result in decreased immune function, particularly T-cell-mediated immunity (Dax et al. 1991 Lotzova et al. 1984 Soderberg and Barnett 1991 Ratajczak et al. 1995). The association between inhalants and Kaposi s sarcoma is currently the subject of increased research interest. [Pg.190]
