Assembly and Processing

The preparation of nanoparticles is just the first step toward their use in applications. For most of the applications, powders are not suitable and the nanoparticles have to be processed into macroscopic structures such as films or three-dimensional architectures. In principle, there are two ways to do that. The nanoparticles are grown and assembled in one step, or they are first prepared, then dispersed in a fluidic medium, and finally brought into the desired shape. Although the one-step strategy seems to be simpler, there are a few examples reported in the literature. Obviously, it is difficult to control the nanoparticle size, shape, and assembly in one step, whereas the separation of synthesis and assembly seems to be more convenient. However, in the latter case, the [Pg.56]

In this section, we will provide a few selected examples for both the one- and the two-step assembly strategy, however, always restricted to nanoparticles produced by nonhydrolytic sol-gel methods. [Pg.57]

This has no direct impact on additives (see Chapter 20), but the assembly and processing of large amounts of mixed plastics waste will increasingly raise the need for development of suitable compatibilizers. Reprocessing of materials may well call for improved stabilizers and additives to boost mechanical properties of compounds. [Pg.278]

Our failure to act in ways that are fully rational stems from our inability to assemble and process all the information which may be necessary to make a fully informed and rational choice. Instead, we muddle through . The process has been referred to more technically as disjointed incrementalism . [Pg.24]

Use The Ergonomic Task Analysis Scoring Tool is limited to analysis of ergonomic risk factors impacting the upper extremities, and is appropriate for office work, assembly and process line work environments. The Initial Evaluation (IE Worksheet) is used to develop a baseline risk score and action level with possible control measures to reduce risk factor scores. It is suggested that videotape analysis be used to study task repetition, postures, lifts, pulls, pushes, carries, and other factors covered by the screening tool. [Pg.441]

Chain conveyors will generally operate at much slower speeds than belt conveyors. Chain conveyors are most easily adapted for assembly and processing applications. Chain conveyors permit indexing of parts and packages. [Pg.39]

Metal contact strips are used to attach the ends of the assembled battery to the battery terminals (e.g., 9-V transistor battery). The orientation of the stack subassembly (cathode up or anode up) is only important for each manufacturer s method of assembly. The use of contact strips allows either design mode. The entire assembly is usually encapsulated in wax or plastic. Some manufacturers also sleeve the assembly in shrink film after waxing. This aids the assembly process cleanliness and provides additional insurance against leakage. Cost, ease of assembly, and process efficiencies usually dictate the orientation during the assembly process. [Pg.192]
