Standards ASME

The petroleum industry is one of the largest users of gas turbines as prime movers for drives of mechanical equipment and also for power generation equipment. Thus the specifications written are well suited for this industry, and the tips of operation and maintenance apply for all industries. This section deals with some of the applicable API and ASME standards for the gas turbine and other various associated pieces. [Pg.151]

It is not the intent here to detail the API or ASME standards, but to discuss some of the pertinent points of these standards and other available options. It is strongly recommended that the reader obtain from ASME and API all mechanical equipment standards. [Pg.151]

A common method of stating flow is standard cubic feet per minute where the flowing conditions are referred to an arbitrary set of standard conditions. Unfortunately, standard conditions are anything but standard. Of the many used, two are more common. The ASME standard uses 68°F and 14.7 psia. The relative humidity is given as 36%. The other standard that is used by the gas transmission industry and the API Mechanical Equipment Standards is 60°F at 14.7 psia. As can be seen from this short discussion, a flow value must be carefully evaluated before it can be used in a compressor calculation. [Pg.21]

There are other organizations within the United States and regions around the world that have established different standards. The ASME standard atmosphere is at a temperature of 68°F, a pressure of 14.7 psia, and a relative humidity of 36%. The British use a standard atmosphere with a temperature of 60°F and a pressure of 30.00 in.Hg. The Europeans use a standard atmosphere with a temperature of 15°C (59°F) and pressure of 750 mmHg (14.5 psia) [24,25]. [Pg.481]

Positive-displacement machines use safety valves. There are ASME standards of materials, sizing, and only ASME stamped valves should be used. The relieving capacity of a given size of safety valve varies materially with the make and design. Care must be taken to assure proper selection. [Pg.646]

Specifically but not exclusively for the chemical industry, most pump manufacturers now build to national standards horizontal and vertical process pumps. ASME Standards B73.1—2001 and B73.2—2003 apply to the horizontal (Fig. 10-47) and vertical in-line (Fig. 10-48) pumps, respectively. [Pg.35]

Not shown hut also conforming to ASME Standard B73.2—2003 are vertical inline pumps with rigid couplings and with no coupling (impeller-mounted on an extended motor shaft). [Pg.38]

From oirr industry standpoint, the first two of these help. They don t really improve the level of pieeision available, but they do provide a sound foundation for future ehange. The ISO and ASME Standards tend to add confusion in this area, but on the bright side, underseore the importance of a eonsistent teehnieal approach to large volume measurement These particular methods provide two alternate means of evaluating orifice meters. The answers are different but in most cases within the preeision mentioned earher. The key point, is they do not provide any improvement in that precision. [Pg.3]

ASME standards and guidetines can be time consuming and difficult to understand. Avoid both problems with diis expert guide. [Pg.505]

To meet the designed deflection of no more than 5% the pipe wall structure could be either a straight wall pipe with a thickness of about 1.3 cm (0.50 in.) or a rib wall pipe that provides the same stiffiiess. It has to be determined if the wall structure selected is of sufficient stiffiiess to resist the buckling pressures of burial or superimposed longitudinal loads. According to this report, the structural integrity of the JOYO thermocouple well was tested and confirmed by hydraulic vibration evaluation based on water flow tests and ASME standards. Modifications were then made at JOYO to improve countermeasures against sodium leaks in the secondary loop [18]. [Pg.55]
