Since all is ultimately consciousness, mind (as Buddhist metaphysics terms consciousness) is the builder of all and the source of the illusion of separateness. It is by the skillful use of the image-building faculty of consciousness (imagination) that we fashion the tools for our liberation. The subjectivity of inner vision does not diminish its reality value. It is real on its own level. Such visions are not hallucinations, because their reality is that of the human psyche. They are symbols in which the highest knowledge and the noblest endeavor of the human mind are embodied. Visualization is the creative process of spiritual projection, through which inner experience is translated into visible form, comparable to the creative act of an artist whose subjective idea, emotion, or vision is transformed into an objective work of art which then takes on a reality of its own, independent of the creator. 

Duchamp himself also praised, even invoked the awesome powers of the Spiritualist mediums who launched the modern branches of the Esoteric Tradition. As the artist eventually admitted to Pierre Cabanne, I do believe very strongly in the medium aspect of the artist... . There is the pole of the one who makes the work, and there is the pole of the one who looks at it. I give the latter as much importance as the one who makes it. On another occasion, Duchamp expanded much further upon the role of a modernist artists who overtly functions as a medium. Not only is the modem artist a spiritualistic medium, but also, says Duchamp, the spectator plays an essential role in the creative act. In order to explicate the creative acts symbioti-cally contributed to by both artist and viewer, Duchamp employs blatantly alchemical metaphors, a point typically overlooked in citations of this statement. As he stated, whereas the artist s imagery is refined from raw matter, the sensitive viewer undergoes a spiritual transmutation in the process of his esoteric act of decipherment and interpretation of a possibly impenetrable avant-garde work of art. 

Although STMs do a splendid job of providing atomic-scale images, nanotechnology specialists are also interested in the machine s ability to move a single atom, as mentioned in the sidebar on pages 50-52. In 1989, the IBM scientist Don Eigler discovered that he could move around atoms with the STM. He spelled the company letters, IBM, with xenon atoms on a nickel surface. Since then, scientists have yielded to a creative impulse and made a variety of artistic pictures with small numbers of atoms. (Such art not only requires an STM to make, it also requires one in order for people to see and appreciate.)... 

If you re applying for a traditional job, don t include clip art or graphic images within your resume. This is only appropriate if you re hoping to land a job as an artist, or plan to work in an industry such as advertising, where employers are looking for creativity. Also, refrain from adding a photo of yourself to your resume.

Of the 180 artists surveyed, 114 said that their psychedelic experiences had affected the content of their work they mainly cited their use of eidetic, or closed-eyes, imagery as a source of subject matter. Fully 131 responded that there had been "a noticeable improvement in their artistic technique, most often mentioning a greater ability to use colors. In addition, 142 attributed a change in creative approach to the psychedelics. Many indicated that dormant interests in art and music had been activated by psychedelic sessions. 

In addition, Baudelaire s frequent comments on the untranslatable dimension of some works of art noted earlier in this chapter, and his choice of creative transposition as a result of the untranslatability, are full of implications for translation theory. Translation is a relative, rather than absolute reality, which needs to be looked at in its historical, cultural and ideological context. As importantly, the nature of the source text, and its aesthetics mechanisms need to be taken into account - with Baudelaire, we are reminded of the subjectivity of the aesthetic experience. A consequence of such subjectivity may be that the aim of translation is not so much to transfer the work of art into another language, than to express the emotions and the subjective nature of the artistic experience.
