Peanut (Arachis hypogea) belongs to the Papilionacea family of the Fabales order, which also includes pea, bean, soybean, lupine, chickpea, and lentil (Duranti and Gius 1997, Makri et al. 2005). 

Since L-arabinose is a constituent unit of many natural products a number of methylated derivatives of this sugar have been isolated by the hydrolysis of methylated polysaccharides. Thus methylated peanut (Arachis hypogea) araban and sugar beet araban give trimethyl-L-arabofuranose, 2,3-dimethyl-L-arabinose and 2-methyl-L-arabinose in equal proportions.84 From methylated gum arabic trimethyl-L-arabo-furanose and 2,5-dimethyl-L-arabinose have been isolated.85 These same compounds have also been isolated from methylated cherry gum86 and methylated damson gum,87 whereas methylated mesquite gum88 affords 3,5-dimethyl- and 2,3,5-trimethyl-L-arabinose on hydrolysis.

Further analysis of the raspberry PKS genes has shown that the proteins coded by the five genes have the seven conserved cysteines at positions 30,60,84,130,164,190 and 341. Cysteines at these conserved locations are likely to have structural functions, because in addition to the CHS from which the consensus sequence derives, they were found at identical or similar locations in Arachis hypogea STS, in the Gerbera hybrida 2-pyrone synthase (2PS), in the Ruta graveolens acridone synthase (ACS), the Rheum palmatum benzalacetone synthase (BAS) and in the aleosone synthase (ALS) (Abe et al., 2004).

The hemicellulosic fraction of the seed endosperm of groundnuts (Arachis hypogea) contains a (l- 4)- -D-gluco-D-mannan. The homogeneity of the polymer was confirmed by electrophoresis, sedimentation, and sugar analysis. Hydrolysis of the methylated polysaccharide yielded 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-methyl-D-glucose and -D-mannose, 2,3,6-tri-O-methyl-D-glucose, and 2,3,6-tri-O-methyl-D-mannose in the molar ratio 1.6 21.2 5.6, respectively.
