Overall crop protection is more of a worry to the farmer and distributor, than it is to the scientist. The former may have to consider fences, ditches, traps, drainage, weeding (rather than application of chemicals), anti-theft measures, unforseen delays and so on. Food manufacturers and distributors may have to consider refrigeration, storage, and appropriate speed of distribution. There are many links in the chain of responsibility between the agrochemical manufacturers, and the ultimate food consumers ... [Pg.1114]

Toward the end of the 1960s, a new area of concern arose the effect of the manufacture and application of pesticide chemicals on the environment was recognized. Concern for the environment was the subject matter of Rachel Carson s brilliant polemic. Silent Spring, which was published in 1962. This new focus led in 1970 to the establishment of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which was given authority to regulate virtually all aspects of agrochemical manufacture and use in the United States. [Pg.1145]

The main applications of mono-, di-, or ttichlorophenols are in agrochemicals and for pentachlorophenol in wood protection. 2-Chlorophenol is used chiefly in the manufacture of an insecticide [41198-08-7] (55,56)... [Pg.82]

Ruthenium-NHC complexes exhibit activity in a very wide field of applications. Due to their unique ability to break and reassemble olefin bonds under reaction conditions very favourable to design simple processes, applications in nearly any chemical discipline can be foreseen. This field may span from manufacturing of specialty polymers and rabbers to pharmaceuticals, pharmaceutical intermediates, agrochemicals, fragrances, dyes, specialty chemicals for electronic applications or fine chemicals from natural feedstock and many more. Below are described Ru-NHC catalysed reactions applied from pilot to full commercial scale. [Pg.319]

In the 1970s and 1980s, however, it was believed that the key to wider use of solid-phase supported reagents and catalysts is their adoption in industry for fine chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing on a large scale. In fact, this restricted view hampered their wide use [7]. The dramatic developments in the need for compound library preparation in pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries have finally removed functionalized supports from their academic corner and helped reinvent them for industrial purposes and applications. [Pg.201]

Acetic acid is one of the major commodity chemicals, with a current world production capacity of ca. 9 Mt/a. It has long been a mainstay of the organic chemicals industry, its manufacture increasing in sophistication and selectivity over the years. From being a simple agrochemical made in small quantitites as a foodstulf additive it has become a major bulk chemical with many important downstream applications (Box 2). [Pg.119]

Elemental S (crystalline or colloidal form) can accumulate as a residue in must as the result of its use as a vineyard agrochemical, where it is used to control grape vine powdery mildew Erysiphe necator and various pests. Direct reduction of S to H2S is induced by the highly reductive conditions that exist at the yeast cell surface during fermentation. This mechanism is of little practical importance except when the application of elemental S is not used according to manufacturers recommendations, such as application within the recommended with-holding period before grape harvest (Rankine 1963 Rauhut and Kiirbel 1994 Thomas et al. 1993). [Pg.344]
