Application selection

Application, Selection and Specification, Cat. 7387-1, 1988, Fike Metal Products Co. [Pg.542]

Kister et al. [136] prepared one of the few comprehensive distillation studies for the application selection of valve and sieve trays compared to random or structured packing. This reference is based on a more comprehensive evaluation of accumulated data by the same authors [137]. Many separate studies have been conducted for trays [138] including bubble caps as well as various packings, but few, if any attempt to establish similar conditions to make a viable comparison as is attempted in References 136, 137. There are four main differences related to capacity and separation [136] when considering ... [Pg.272]

D. Select a packing and determine its packing factor from Tables 9-26A-E. Packing is selected for its expected process HETP or Kga performance, pressure drop and materials of construction for the system. Table 9-17 presents summary comments for applications. Selection guides are as follows ... [Pg.296]

The Raney nickel is a very efficient catalyst for the dehydrogenation of 2-butanol into butanone (Scheme 45) with a good selectivity (90%). But, for industrial applications selectivities as high as 99% are required. This can be achieved by poisoning some sites by reaction with Bu4Sn (the best results are obtained with a Sn/Ni ratio of 0.02), which probably occurs first on the sites responsible for the side reactions. The consequence is a slight decrease of the catalytic activity and an increase of the selectivity in 2-butanone which can reach 99%. This catalyst, developed by IFF, has been used commercially in Japan for several years [180]. [Pg.202]

A catalyst cannot change the ultimate equilibrium point set by thermodynamics, but it can affect the rate at which this point is approached. However, it can facilitate approach to equilibrium with respect to a desired reaction while not influencing the rates of other less desirable reactions. In optimizing yields of desired products, chemical engineers are very concerned with the selectivity or specificity of a catalyst. For commercial applications, selectivity is often more important than activity per se. [Pg.168]

Other applicable selection methods include immunoprecipitation [24] and gel-shift assays [25]. Generally, a method must be found that enables the separation of unbound from bound RNA. [Pg.72]

Polarizable Continuum Model). The potentialities of these new PCM tools for excited states have been shown by some numerical applications selected as partial testimony of the state-of-the-art in a field which progresses quite rapidly. [Pg.34]

In both shielding and decorative work demand has been growing for processes that will coat only selected parts of a component. For shielding usually it is only necessary to coat one surface (the inside) and any additional coating just adds to cost. Also, when an outer surface is coated there may be difficulty over the external colour finish—problems, say, over adhesion of paint to metallic film. Un-metallized plastics are comparatively easy to paint and if the outer surface is natural it either may be left like that or painted without trouble. For decorative applications selective coating can be helpful for visual effects—as an example, by contrast between bright nickel-chromium and matt black surfaces. [Pg.178]

The Handbook of Chemical Processing Equipment is a major reference work on process equipment. It provides practical understanding and descriptions of the working principles, intended applications, selection criteria, and fundamental design principles for equipment used throughout the process and allied chemical industries. [Pg.545]
