Antiarthritic compounds

Badger AM, Newman-Tarr TM, Satterfield JL. Selective immunomodulatory activity of SK F 106615, a macrophage-targeting antiarthritic compound, on antibody and cellular responses in rats and mice. Immunopharmacol 1997 37 53-61. [Pg.135]

Amine boranes have been examined by a variety of spectroscopic methods (24—29). The boron-substituted alpha-amino acids have been utilized in animal model studies. These compounds along with their precursors and selected derivatives have been shown to possess antineoplastic, antiarthritic, and hypolipidemic activity (30—32). The boron amino acid analogues are also being evaluated for possible utility in boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) (33). [Pg.262]

Thiirane is more bactericidal than oxirane, and derivatives of 2-mei captomethylthiirane inhibit tuberculosis. The following pharmacological uses have been reported for compounds derived from thiirane derivatives gold complexes of the adducts of diethylphosphine and thiirane (antiarthritic), adducts of thiiranes and malononitrile (antibacterial, blood vessel dilators, muscle relaxants, sedatives), thermolysis products of thiirane 1-oxides and adducts of thiirane 1-oxides with sulfenyl chlorides (antibacterial), adducts of 2,3-diarylthiirene 1,1-dioxides with ynamines (antibacterial, parasiticidal), adducts of 2,3-diarylthiirene 1,1-dioxides with enamines (antifertility), adducts of p-aminophenylacetic esters with thiirane (immunosuppressants), adducts of amines and thiiranes (radioprotective drugs). [Pg.183]

Thiolate ligands also afford an interesting variety of species [156-161]. Because or their relation with the antiarthritic drug Auranofin, thiolate-goldphosphine derivatives have received great interest. The simplest structures are those in which the thiolate bridges two gold atoms and thus different compounds of stoichiometry... [Pg.87]

However, corticosteroids and their metabolites (1) were early recognized as possessing powerful antiinflammatory and immunomodulatory properties. Even prior to 1950, reports of the antiarthritic properties of cortisone (1) by Hench and co-workers (2) indicated the potential for these compounds to reduce the suffering of patients with inflammatory diseases. This awareness, combined with the first synthesis of naturally occurring glucocorticoids (11-desoxycorticosterone), led not only to the massive increase in research in the area of steroid synthesis and physiology, but to a Nobel prize in 1950 for early steroid pioneers Hench, Reichstein, and Kendall. [Pg.93]

A very large number of copper compounds have been tested for antiinflammatory activity, and various copper complexes of antiarthritic drugs have been found to be more effective than the parent drugs alone (including aspirin, D-penicillamine, ketoprofen and gold thiomalate).25... [Pg.760]

The rapid development of carborane chemistry is mainly due to their practical applications. For instance, the potential utility of carborane polymers as gaskets, O-rings, and electrical connector inserts has been reported. Their functionality for solvent extraction of radionuchdes as well as the potential medicinal value of the isoelectronic and isostructural boron analogues of biologically important molecules has been the subject of many review articles. For example, a number of boron compounds have been found to possess anti-inflammatory and antiarthritic activity in animal model studies. Boron compounds have also been implicated in studies designed to probe the importance of the so-called anionic subsite of acetylcholine esterase and Ach receptors. But, by far the most interesting practical apphcations of carboranes are in areas of boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) and supramolecular assembly. [Pg.522]

One compound which did not work well in our system was our original model, a-phenylacrylic acid. A number of these aryl propionic acids are valuable as nonsteroidal antiarthritics. Here, as is typically the case, only one enantiomer is active and thus a process to prepare one isomer directly was needed. We tried hard to solve this problem, even using ruthenium-ligand systems, but without success. It took Professor Noyori with his BINAP-ruthenium complex to solve this problem [4]. This is just another example in the history of invention. The one who makes the first discovery seldom makes the second. On a grander stage, this may explain why there are so few double Nobel Laureates. [Pg.32]
