Anti-acid

Finally, the site http //www.naplesnews.com/today/neapolitan/a84826n.htm gives good advice on diet, aimed at avoiding the problem before we need to ingest an anti-acid tablet. [Pg.550]

Titanium (Ti) is used as a major component of Ti alloys, which are used as heat-resistant Ught metals for the construction of aircraft and rockets. Though Ti is also used as an anti-acid metal, it bums in air when heated above 1500 K. TiCl4 is a Uquid used to form colored smoke in air. [Pg.295]

The term " dope also includes the anti-acidic compds, such as Ca or Mg carbonates and Mg or Zn oxides. These are added in small quantities to neutralize the acidity which usually develops on prolonged storage of Dynamites... [Pg.426]

Numerous uses of acetamide are discussed in Refs 4 5- According to Ref 4, p 47, the neutral and amphoteric characteristics of acetanilide make it valuable as an anti-acid in expl compns... [Pg.16]

Calcium carbonate, either powdered limestone or precipitated chalk, is used as an anti-acid in dynamite where it serves as a satisfactory stabilizer. Urea is used in dynamite and in celluloid. It reacts with nitrous acid to produce nitrogen and carbon dioxide, and is unsuitable for use in smokeless powder because the gas bubbles destroy the homogeneity of the colloid and affect the rate of burning. The small gas bubbles however commend it for use in celluloid, for they produce an appearance of whiteness and counteract the yellowing of age. [Pg.308]

Anti-acids, astringents and antiseptic agents may contain a variety of aluminium salts. Organic salts, alumina, the hydroxide and phosphates may be attacked with concentrated hydrochloric acid and diluted to bring the aluminium concentration into the range 10—50 pg ml"1. Alternative procedures for antacids using hydrochloric/nitric acid [67] and extraction with 4M hydrochloric acid [95] have been proposed. For silicates, the sample is best taken up in perchloric/hydrofluoric acid, evaporated to dryness to remove silica, and then the residue dissolved in warm hydrochloric acid [87], In each case the nitrous oxide/acetylene flame is the preferred atom cell, and the method of standard additions may be used to minimise any errors arising from lateral diffusion. [Pg.419]

Hydrofluoric acid, in concentrations of 10-40%, is often recommended for cleaning heavily contaminated glass surfaces. This acid can cause serious and painful burns. Reliable watertight rubber gloves must be worn and the hands should be coated with anti-acid banier cream. The gloves should be carefully rinsed in tap water before taking them off. [Pg.11]
