Angular stomatitis

The answers are 404-e, 405-c. (Hardman, pp 1555-1557, 1559-1561.) Angular stomatitis, dermatitis, and corneal vascularization are considered classic signs of human riboflavin deficiency, although multiple B vitamins may be involved. [Pg.235]

Riboflavin (vitamin B2) is found in liver, milk, meat, green vegetables, cereals and mushrooms. It is active in the form of two coenzymes, flavin mononucleotide and flavin adenine dinucleotide. As a coenzyme for proton transfer in the respiratory chain it is indispensable for energy-release from carbohydrates, lipids and proteins. Riboflavin deficiency only occurs in combination with deficiencies of other members of the vitamin B family. The symptoms of such deficiency consist of angular stomatitis, lesions of the cornea, dermatoses and normochromic normocytic anaemia. [Pg.474]

Riboflavin vitamin Bf) deficiency results in local seborrheic dermatitis that may be limited to the face and scrotum. Other symptoms of ariboflavinosis include angular stomatitis, cheilitis, and glossitis. Specific ocular... [Pg.779]

Deficiency symptoms It is characterized by glossitis, dermatitis of trunk and extremities, angular stomatitis, cheilosis, anaemia, neuropathy, cataract formation and vascularization of cornea. [Pg.387]

Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) has the active forms FAD and FMN. It functions in electron trans fer. A deficiency of riboflavin is rare, but it causes dermatitis and angular stomatitis. There is no known toxicity. [Pg.501]

DEFICIENCY RESULTS IN angular stomatitis (cracks in the comer of the mouth), inflamination of the tongue, seborrheic dermatitis, and anemia. [Pg.63]

Inflammation or open sores at the comers of the mouth or lips, a purple -red inflamed tongue, angular stomatitis, glossitis, cheilosis, photophobia seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff). [Pg.245]

Anorexia, a feehng of bloating, mild nausea, and mild diarrhea are common (17). Vomiting, abdominal cramps, and more severe diarrhea are rare. Black, furry tongue, glossodynia, angular stomatitis, and taste disturbances have been described (18). [Pg.1560]

The deficiency syndrome is characterized by sore throat, hyperemia, edema of the pharyngeal and oral mucous membranes, cheilosis, angular stomatitis, glossitis (magenta tongue), seborrheic dermatitis, and normochromic, normocytic anemia associated with pure red blood cell aplasia of the bone marrow. However, some of these symptoms, such as glossitis and dermatitis, when encountered in the field may have resulted firom other complicating deficiencies. [Pg.1096]

Signs of riboflavin deficiency include cheilosis, angular stomatitis, magenta tongue, and localized seborrheic der-matitis.Some of these conditions may be due to concurrent deficiency of other B-complex vitamins, since it is diffi-... [Pg.916]

A postoperative patient on intravenous fluids develops lesions in the mouth (angular stomatitis). Urinalysis indicates an excretion of 15 pg riboflavin/mg creatinine, which is abnormally low. Which of the following TCA cycle enzymes is most likely to be affected ... [Pg.137]

As with dental nonprecious alloys, many reports have been made of lingual lesions, injuries of the oral mucosa in the form of stomatitis, cheilitis, tissular hypertrophy, oral redness, dryness, and angular stomatitis, without predse knowledge of the etiol-... [Pg.375]

Slight creatinuria, chapping, cheilosis, angular stomatitis, gastrolnintestlnal disturbances, muscle weakness ... [Pg.181]

In experimental pellagra, which was induced in three human subjects who received a corn diet which furnished 4.7 mg. of niacin and 190 mg. of tryptophan daily, findings included dermatitis, glossitis, stomatitis, bloody diarrhea, and mild mental disturbances. " In addition, cheilosis, angular stomatitis, and dermatitis of the nasolabial folds were observed, lesions commonly found in riboflavin deficiency, yet the diet furnished 2 mg. of riboflavin daily. The occurrence of similar lesions in deficiency of niacin and riboflavin reflects the close metabolic relationship of these vitamins. [Pg.562]
