Angiotensin peptides - the angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor (ACE), captopril, has anxiolytic activity in both experimental and clinical studies. It has recently been shown that the angiotensin 1 receptor antagonist, losartin, has anxiolytic properties whereas the angiotensin 2 antagonists are inactive.

Angiotensin II (All) is one of the most potent vasoconstrictors known, and accounts for most of the endogenous activity of the angiotensin peptide family, including vasoconstriction in cutaneous, splanchnic and renal beds. It has few actions on other smooth muscle, but increases the rate and force of the heart. It has actions within the CNS that suggest a role in control of thirst and appetite for salt. 

Angiotensin peptides act at two main receptor types called AT] and ATj. In the rat and mouse, AT, and AT b receptors have been cloned and, though the product of different genes, have 94% homology, with small pharmacological and insignificant functional, differences. All these receptors are of the 7-transmembrane G-protein-coupled type.

Various peptidases degrade and inactivate angiotensin peptides, including aminopeptidases, endopeptidases, and carboxypeptidases none is specific. 

A pair of elevated anchors with hydrophilic top surface allowed for sample and standard deposition in very close proximity (on the anchors), and thus improved mass calibration with an external standard. The approach actually mimicked an internal standard mass calibration procedure and enabled the analysis of 30 pL sample solutions corresponding to 1.5 amol of angiotensin peptides. 

This rationale led Severin et alP to construct an array consisting of CuCh, NiCh, and three UV-active chro-mophores, resulting in six metal-indicator combinations to comprise a dynamic combinatorial library. A dynamic combinatorial library is an array of differential sensors that are simultaneously present in one solution, under thermodynamic control, such that this one solution can provide multiple signals from the composite interactions of an analyte with all the sensors in solution. They found that this simple dynamic combinatorial library of receptors was able to successfully discriminate two angiotensin peptides (angiotensin I and angiotensin II) and mixtures of these two peptides. 

AHMOA is a key component of a renin inhibitory angiotensin peptide fragment.
