I7(x-Methyl-17 -hydroxy-estra-4,9,l l-trien-3-one (Methyltrienolone, N-99). In the course of a steroid total synthesis [293] this compound (Methyltrienolone, N-99) was prepared it was reported [55] to possess 6000% of the androgenic (ventral prostate index), 7500% of the androgenic (seminal vesicles index), and 12,000% of the anabolic (levator ani index) activity of methyltestosterone. Later the anabolic activity was reported [74] to be 30,000% of that of methyltestosterone. As measured by multiple parameters methyltrienolone turned out to be the most hepatotoxic steroid, causing biochemical symptoms of intrahepatic cholestasis [75]. It was also reported [74] to reduce the excretion of 17-ketosteroids and 17-hydroxycorticosteroids and to cause enhancement of the blood coagulation factors V, VII, and X. It also increases the prothrombin content of the plasma [74]. [Pg.88]

Androgenic deficiency in male rats given a single oral dose of 15 pg 2,3,7,8-TCDD/kg BW was evident as early as 2 days posttreatment, with persistence up to 12 days. These deficiencies may account for male reproductive pathology and dysfunction in rats treated with overtly toxic doses of TCDD. Findings included depression in plasma testosterone concentrations, as well as decreased weight of seminal vesicles (by 68%), ventral prostate gland (by 48%), testes, and epididymis (Moore et al. 1985). [Pg.1053]

Seminal D-fructose concentration is an indicator of the size and secretory capacity of the seminal vesicles.124 As seminal vesicles are testosterone-dependent tissues, seminal D-fructose values have been taken as an easily measured indicator of human androgenic activity.125-126 However, examination of the relationship between plasma... [Pg.303]

Tlie tnosi important andcogen in liuman.s is testosterone. About 2% of icsiosicrone in the plasma is free and in the skin, prostate, seminal ve.sicles and epididymis it i.s converted to diliydrotes(osterone. Androgen deficiency is usually treated with intramuscular depot injections of... [Pg.75]

RA and its isomers inhibit prostate epithelial cell growth [54]. Inhibition of RA metabolism raises plasma RA and inhibits relapse in the rat Dunning prostate cancer model [55]. RA decreases the concentrations of dihydrotestosterone, 3a-adiol and androsterone in serum, seems to cause a metabolic deviation away from the 5a-reductase path in liver [56], and causes a three-fold decrease in androgen receptor binding capacity [57]. Conversely, androgens affect the actions of retinoids by decreasing the mRNA of RARa approximately five-fold in prostate epithelia and 15 to 20-fold in seminal vesicles, while increasing it two-fold in kidney [58]. [Pg.23]
