Riley, T. and Tomlinson, C., Principles of Electroanalytical Methods, ACOL Series, Wiley, Chichester, 1987. This is the first of the three Analytical Chemistry by Open Learning (ACOL) texts on electroanalysis (all of which are now out of print), and the lesser of the three in terms of quality, so few of today s readers will bother to search its pages now. It is nevertheless quite a good introduction to the field, although its age is showing quite badly. The lack of an index, together with other period features, detract from an otherwise readable book. [Pg.331]

The development of standard methods of analysis has been a prime objective of the Analytical Division of the Royal Society of Chemistry and its precursors, the Society of Public Analysts and the Society for Analytical Chemistry, since the earliest of days and the results of this work have been recorded in the pages of The Analyst since its inception in 1876. An Analytical Investigation Scheme was proposed by A. Chaston Chapman in 1902. This later evolved into the Standing Committee on Uniformity of Analytical Methods and was charged with developing standard chemicals and securing comparative analyses of these standard materials. [Pg.1]

Pure iron, containing only about 0.01% of impurities, can be made by electrolytic reduction of iron salts. It has little use a small amount is used in analytical chemistry, and a small amount in the treatment of anemia. Metallic iron is greatly strengthened by the presence of a small amount of carbon, and its mechanical and chemical properties are also improved by moderate amounts of other elements, especially other transition metals.
