Amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP), developed by Vos et al. [453], is also a new technique for DNA fingerprinting. This technique is based on the selective amplification of restriction fragments (SARE) by PCR from a digest of total genomic DNA. 

AFLP involves four steps (a) restriction enzymes digestion (b) ligation of adapters to the restriction fragments (c) PCR amplification of the restriction/ ligation fragments, and (d) detection and analysis of the amplified fragments.
