Amperage

The unit cost of the d-c supply decreases with increasing voltage and amperage (see Fig. 4). A chlor—alkali plant is therefore most economical when as many high amperage cells as possible are connected in series. 

Monopolar cells operate at low voltages, and may requite high amperages. Industrial citcuits of cells may consist of one hundred or more monopolar cells in series. Monopolar electrodes are used in some membrane chlor-aLkaU cells (Figs. 4 and 5), fluorine cells (Fig. 6), and in metal electrowinning cells (Fig. 7). 

Designed to accommodate rectifier amperages from 30 to 150 kA. Cells of various kA ratings vary in the length of cell and number of anodes and cathodes. Operating characteristics vary with current density (30). 

Electrical switch gear problems cause one phase to have low amperage. 

Power supplied to the ozone generators. The parameters measured include amperage, voltage, power, and frequency, if this is a controllable variable.

Organization (ISO) have developed standards for hattei y sizes, voltages, and amperages. These standards are now accepted on a world-wide basis. 

As a rule, the speed variation in a constant-speed machine is about 15 per cent. For an electric motor, the actual variation can be determined by obtaining the difference between the amperage drawn under full-load and no-load. This difference, taken as a percentage of full-load amperage draws, provides the actual percentage of speed-range variation that can be expected. 

Electrical resistance boilers for industrial applications are typically available in sizes up to 3,500 kWh (350 developed boiler hp, 12,000 lb/hr from and at 212 °F, or 11.6M gross Btu/hr output) with startup amperages of up to perhaps 4,600 amps (440 v/3 phase) or 9,740 amps (220 v/3 phase). 

Electrostatic Technologies, Inc. provide EluidTron electronic fluid treatment systems in various sizes. These items of equipment generate an electrostatic field of between 20,000 and 30,000 volts DC, at very low amperage.

Knowing the amperage and how long it is being applied (seconds), the coulombs can be calculated. Then the coulombs can be converted into moles of electrons, and the moles of electrons can be related to the moles (and then grams) of material being electrolyzed through the balanced half-reaction. 

The electrical current used by the motor is an important indicator of the performance of the extruder. The current as measured in amperage is directly proportional to the torque applied to the motor shaft and also to the screw. The motor current can be used to estimate the power and specific energy that are dissipated by the screw. The variation in the motor current with time is also an indicator of the stability of the extruder. Numerous examples of the motor current stability and process stabilities are presented in Chapter 12.
