Charge acceptance of the silver—2inc system is normally on the order of 95—100% efficient based on coulombic (ampere-hour output over input) values. This is tme of any of the charging methods when carried out in the proper manner. Thus overcharge is rarely necessary in charging silver—2inc cells and batteries. [Pg.556]

Batteries are rated by ampere-hours, which is the total amount of charge that can be delivered. More specifically, it is a measure of the number of electrons that can be released at the anode and accepted at the cathode. It is also related to the energy content or capacity of the batteiy. If a battery has a capacity of 90 A-h, it can supply a current of 90 A for one hour, 30 A for three hours, or 1 A for 90 hours. The gi eater the current, the shorter the period the battery can supply It likewise, the less the current, the longer the period the battery can supply it. [Pg.116]

The anode capacity is the total coulombic charge (current x time) produced by unit mass of an anode as a result of electrochemical dissolution. It is normally expressed in ampere hours per kilogram (Ah/kg) although the inverse of anode capacity, i.e. the consumption rate (kg/Ay) is sometimes used. [Pg.137]

An anode material must have a high, reproducible and available capacity, i.e. whilst acting as an anode, it must be capable of delivering consistently and on demand a large number of ampere hours per kilogram of material spent. The ideal anode material will not passivate in the exposure environment, will corrode uniformly thus avoiding... [Pg.137]

It is desirable to choose an anode material with the lowest cost per ampere hour of current supplied. However, the choice is often governed by other constraints and becomes a compromise. [Pg.148]

Cold crank performance, battery life expectancy, and freedom from maintenance are generally co-affected by the separators, whereas ampere-hour capacity remains largely unaffected at a given separator thickness. The properties of the different leaf and pocket separators are compared in Table 10. These typical separator properties (lines 1-4) are reflected in the electrical results of battery tests (lines 5-8). The data presented here are based on the 12 V starter battery standard DIN 43 539-02 tests based on other standards lead to similar results. [Pg.269]

In the above relationship, Qg is the volumetric quantity of the metal deposited per ampere hour at a current efficiency of 100% (i.e., when p = 1) as per Faraday s law, and can be obtained from the relationship ... [Pg.706]

Porous zinc electrodes with highly developed surface are elaborated in this laboratory, which show extremely high discharge rate capability in wide temperature range (down to -40°C). The self-discharge of the zinc is well suppressed without the use of any unacceptable mercury and a high amper-hour capacity of these zinc electrodes is achieved. [Pg.152]

The size of electrodes and the current passed through the electrolytic cell determine the current density, which in most reductions is in the range of 0.05-0.2 A/cm. The ciurent in turn is determined by the imposed voltage and conductivity of the electrolyte. The amount of electricity used for electroreduction of one gram equivalent of a compound is 96,500 coulombs (26.8 ampere-hours). In practice about twice the amount is used (current yield of 50%) Procedure 25, p. 210). [Pg.25]

Modem hollow-cathode lamps require only a very short warm-up period. Lifetimes are measured in ampere hours (usually they are in excess of 5 A h). A starting voltage of 500 V is useful, but operating voltages are in the range 150-300 V. In many instmments, the current supplied to the lamp is modulated. Hollow-cathode lamps may also be pulsed or... [Pg.19]

Mardi provides the chemical agent for Crodel s electroplating process. The application equipment in this case is owned and operated by both companies (current supply, dosage for the brighteners), located at Crodel. The recycling is done by Mardi. The unit of payment is the amount of ampere-hours, which corresponds to the surface of the galvanised pieces (Fig. 8). [Pg.231]

The stirrers are started, the current (no volt D.C.) turned on, and the resistance so adjusted that the ammeter records io-i 2 amperes. The temperature of the solution in the cells is maintained at 20-30° by surrounding them with a bath of cool water (Note 4). The reduction is complete after 60-70 ampere-hours. This fact is indicated by the increased evolution of hydrogen and the complete solution of the anthranilic acid. [Pg.11]
