A number of high melting poiat semiaromatic nylons, iatroduced ia the 1990s, have lower moisture absorption and iacreased stiffness and strength. Apart from nylon-6 /6,T (copolymer of 6 and 6,T), the exact stmcture of these is usually proprietary and they are identified by trade names. Examples iaclude Zytel HTN (Du Pont) Amodel, referred to as polyphthalamide or PPA (Amoco) and Aden (Mitsui Petrochemical). Properties for polyphthalamide are given ia Table 2. A polyphthalamide has been defined by ASTM as "a polyamide ia which the residues of terephthaUc acid or isophthahc acid or a combination of the two comprise at least 60 molar percent of the dicarboxyhc acid portion of the repeating stmctural units ia the polymer chain" (18). 

As with the aliphatic polyamides such as nylons 6 and 66, the polyphthalamides were developed as plastics materials only after their sucessful use in the field of fibres. Such materials were introduced in 1991 by Amoco under the trade name of Amodel. 

Values for kj and kjj are assumed and the above equations are integrated subject to the initial conditions that a = 2, b = 0 at t = 0. The integration gives the model predictions amodel(j) and bmodel(j). The random search technique is used to determine optimal values for the rate constants based on minimization of and S. The following program fragment shows the method used to adjust kj and kjj during the random search. The specific version shown is used to adjust kj based on the minimization of S, and those instructions concerned with the minimization of S appear as comments.

Dobson s and Serrano s groups (Fiebig et al., 1996 Serrano, 1995 Smith etal., 1996) have attempted to derive amodel of unfolded proteins based on the statistical distribution information of each amino acid in the PDB. Our work raises the possibility that this approach is not valid. 

In the polymerization of St, it was found that 12 scarcely induces living radical polymerization [111], because the C-C bond of the co-chain end is a pentasubsti-tuted ethane structure (23), while the co-chain end of the polymer produced from the polymerization of MMA is a dissociable hexasubstituted ethane structure (24). The non-dissociation properties of the co-chain end of the polymer produced in the St polymerization were also reported by Braun et al. [109,112-116]. Namely, the St polymerization with 12 was a dead-end type polymerization. The dissociation of the chain ends was also examined by the experiments using the oligomer (n=l-3in24) [117,118] or amodel compound of the chain-end structures, 25 [119]. The C-C bond length at the co-chain end is 1.628 A for 24 (n=l), which is longer than the ordinary C-C bonds [118]. 

The Augusta facility produced plastics, including Amodel, a hard but moldable high-performance nylon. Amodel is manufactured by passing a solution of diamines and dicarboxylic acids through a series of reactors. The reaction is completed in an extruder, and the material is then formed and cooled into solid pellets.

Beware that building models is trivial a computer program will almost always produce amodel unless there is a drastic problem with the data. Btiilding reliable models s more difficult. The computer does not automatically assess the reliability dfthc results and therefore chemical and mathematical knowi-edge must be used to determine whether the model is reasonable. 

Whenever possible, amodel selection should be optimized before starting selections with a library. In this experiment, a mixture of active and inactive phage-enzymes is used as a model library for one round of selection. The phage mixture is analyzed before and after selection, yielding numbers that serve for the calculation of an enrichment factor (EF) ...

Amodel of three loaded areas (Fig. 7-7) has therefore been constructed from aknowledge of the emission pattern but also from the particular territorial situation in the region investigated. The results from MVDA of the impact data in the summer months are represented in Fig. 7-8. The isolated class of the relatively highly polluted center clearly contrasts with the others. The loaded areas A and B are more similar to one another, but they are well reclassified, as the small error of discrimination of 10.0% proves.
