Pulmonary infiltrates occurred in a 72-year-old man after treatment with amiodarone (total dose 6800 mg) for only 7 days (72). 

Other molecular lesions. Increased mitochondrial ROS formation causes hpid peroxidation, which together with c3ttokines can trigger necroinflammation and fibrosis (Berson et al. 1998). In isolated rat hepatocytes treated with amiodarone, perhexihne, or diethylaminoethoxyhexestrol, calcium-activated transglutaminase polymerizes cytokeratin 8, a process that may initiate the formation of Mallory-Denkbodies (Robin et al. 2008). In addition to initial steatosis, patients may develop MaUory-Denk bodies, necrosis, a mixed inflammatory cell infiltrate, fibrosis, and even cirrhosis (De la Iglesia et al. 1974 Pessayre et al. 1979 Poucell et al. 1984). 

Early-onset amiodarone toxicity due to diffuse alveolar hemorrhage, with respiratory distress, hemoptysis, severe hj oxia, and bilateral pulmonary infiltrates has been described in a 46-year-old man taking amiodarone [32" ]. 

In another case a post-mortem lung mass was found to be due to lymphoplasmacydc infiltrates in the alveolar walls and intra-alveolar accumulation of foamy macrophages containing myelinoid bodies, suggesting that it was due to amiodarone [29" ].
