Amino starches applications

Chlorine spray is used to identify peptides and amino acid derivatives. [231 A blue color is given by almost all compounds that contain NH groups. Alcohols and acids interfere with the test and should be removed prior to application of the spray. The test fails when dioxane is used to develop the plate or when certain fluorescent indicators are present. Several protocols have been described for this test.14 These protocols vary in the reagents that are used to generate the reactive chlorine and the iodine-starch reagent that is used for visualization. 

Different types of floeculants can be prepared by aminomethylation the amino-methyl derivatives of polyacrylamide represent the most widely adopted class of compounds, which includes high-molecular-weight floeculants (502, 517 in Table 38, 562 in Table 40), and has been widely patented. The large amount of research on these pnxlucts is concerned, in particular, with is(x lcctric points, the content of functionalized co-units, the extent of amido groups hydrolysis, and the use of copolymcrs. -"- Applications of acrylamide copolymers grafted onto starch or other polysaccharides arc also considered. ... 

Chromatographic batch reactors are employed to prepare instable reagents on the laboratory scale (Coca et al., 1993) and for the production of fine chemicals. These applications include the racemic resolution of amino acid esters (Kalbe et al., 1989), acid-catalyzed sucrose inversion (Lauer, 1980), production of dextran (Zafar and Barker, 1988) and saccharification of starch to maltose (Sarmidi and Barker, 1993a). Sardin et al. (1993) employed batch chromatographic reactors for different esterification reactions such as the esterification of acetic acid with ethanol and the transesterification of methylacetate. Falk and Seidel-Morgenstern (2002) have investigated the hydrolysis of methyl formate. 

One of the earliest known industrial uses of starch was to size and stiffen textiles. It is also added to yams to increase mechanical strength and resistance to friction wear and helps resist moisture penetration. And it can serve as a stabilizer and filler for colored inks when fabrics are overprinted. The detergent industry uses starch products for the production of biodegradable, nontoxic and skin-friendly detergents. Starch products are also used in an array of less obvious applications as feedstock in fermentation for the production of amino acids.
