The V regions of eight of the twelve X chains appear to have identical amino acid sequences two differ by one residue from these eight, one protein differs by two residues, and the other by three. Of the variations observed in the four proteins, all occurred at or near positions 25, 52, or 97, which are in or near hypervariable regions of human or mouse K, and of human X chains, and which are known to be associated with the antibody combining site. [Pg.162]
