Aluminum fragile

In this case study, a zirconia-alumina membrane has been developed using the sol-gel technique with and without support.6-7 The porous ceramic was prepared to fabricate the membrane support. A thin film of aluminum and zirconium were formed on the porous ceramic support. Unsupported membrane was also prepared. The unsupported membrane was not strong enough to hold a high-pressure gradient it was very fragile and not useful... [Pg.381]

The covers are constructed from aluminum or some type of steel. This should provide adequate protection from being pierced or cut through. The metals are corrosion resistant so that they will not corrode or become fragile from extreme weather conditions in outdoor applications. The bolts used to install each of these systems are galvanized steel. In addition, the bolts for each cover are installed on the inside of the unit so they cannot be removed from the outside. [Pg.190]

Steel phases have an influence on the rate of corrosion. Ferrite has a weak resistance to pitting. The presence of martensite can increase the hydrogen fragilization of steel. Intermetallic phases as Fe2Mo in high Ni content alloys can influence the corrosion resistance. The precipitate CuA12 in aluminum alloys the series 2000 is more noble than the matrix, with corrosion around the precipitate. The majority of case histories reported in the literature have involved austenitic stainless steels, aluminum alloys, and to a lesser degree, some ferritic stainless steels and nickel-based alloys.31... [Pg.376]

The majority of the capillary columns available in the market are made from glass, steel or quartz. The glass columns are often covered with a thin film of aluminum in order to make them less fragile and less breakable. Glass columns are rarely used nowadays. They have been replaced with columns made from fused silica. The biggest advantage of such columns is that it is possible to make columns with very thin walls, which are not as easily breakable as the glass columns. [Pg.79]

In the best-case situation, both types of microcantilever sensors would be grouped in an array to provide a cross platform of sensitive and selective explosive detection system. Additional co-funded (TSA/ATF) work is eurrently on going in materials development for novel microeantilevers. This involves R D of silicon carbide (SiC) based cantilevers, for improvements in material properties (e.g., less fragile eompared to silicon) and to provide a platform for wide band gap type materials, like aluminum nitride (AIN). With an AlN/SiC based cantilever, the sensor can now work in the piezoeleetric resonator mode, providing enhance response and henee sensitivity to the analyte, along with a direct measurement by frequeney/resistance response, versus the more complex optieal deteetion... [Pg.297]
