Trifluoroethanol was first prepared by the catalytic reduction of trifluoroacetic anhydride [407-25-0] (58). Other methods iaclude the catalytic hydrogeaatioa of trifluoroacetamide [354-38-1] (59), the lithium aluminum hydride reductioa of trifluoroacetyl chloride [354-32-5] (60) or of trifluoroacetic acid or its esters (61,62), and the acetolysis of 2-chloro-l,l,l-trifluoroethane [75-88-7] followed by hydrolysis (60). More recently, the hydrogenation of... [Pg.293]

The reaction of HCl and silicon, germanium, and boron hydrides is cataly2ed by aluminum chloride and is useful for preparing chloro-substituted silanes andgermanes. [Pg.443]

The versatility of lithium aluminum hydride permits synthesis of alkyl, alkenyl, and arylsilanes. Silanes containing functional groups, such as chloro, amino, and alkoxyl in the organic substituents, can also be prepared. Mixed compounds containing both SiCl and SiH cannot be prepared from organopolyhalosilanes using lithium aluminum hydride. Reduction is invariably complete. [Pg.29]

The properties of chlorine azide resemble those of bromine azide. Pon-sold has taken advantage of the stronger carbon-chlorine bond, i.e., the resistance to elimination, in the chloro azide adducts and thus synthesized several steroidal aziridines. 5a-Chloro-6 -azidocholestan-3 -ol (101) can be converted into 5, 6 -iminocholestan-3l -ol (102) in almost quantitative yield with lithium aluminum hydride. It is noteworthy that this aziridine cannot be synthesized by the more general mesyloxyazide route. Addition of chlorine azide to testosterone followed by acetylation gives both a cis- and a trans-2iddMct from which 4/S-chloro-17/S-hydroxy-5a-azidoandrostan-3-one acetate (104) is obtained by fractional crystallization. In this case, sodium borohydride is used for the stereoselective reduction of the 3-ketone... [Pg.25]

A solution of hydrazoic acid (prepared from about 30 g sodium azide) in ca. 200 ml chloroform is prepared in a well-ventilated hood. Cholesterol (15 g) is dissolved in the hydrazoic acid solution and 3.5 ml of triethylamine is added. The reaction mixture is then stirred at room temperature while 7 g of A-chlorosuccinimide is added. The reaction mixture is allowed to stand overnight and then the chloroform solution is washed successively with dilute sodium bisulfite, dilute soldium bicarbonate solutions and finally with water. The chloroform extract is then dried (Na2S04) and the solvent removed in vacuo. The residue is crystallized from ethanol to yield ca. 8.5 g of (101) in colorless needles mp 138-139°. The chloro azide is reduced to the aziridine by lithium aluminum hydride according to the foregoing procedure. [Pg.34]

Alcoholysis of 1 -chloro-2-acyl-1,1,2-trifluoroethane, available from trifluoro-ethylene, an acyl chloride, and aluminum chloride, leads to 1-fluoro- 1-acylacetates [/] (equation 1) It is surpnsing that the remaining carbon-tluorine bond resists hydrolysis. [Pg.422]

The reactions of some fluorinated ethers may result in the elimination of alkyl fluorides In the case of 2-methoxyperfluoro-2-butene, treatment with antimony pentafluoride gives perfluoro-3-buten-2-one and methylfluoride [107] By reacting 2-chloro-l,l,2-trifluorodiethyl ether with boron trifluoride etherate or with aluminum chloride, chlorofluoroacetyl fluoride can be obtained with the elimination of ethyl fluonde [108] (equations 76 and 77)... [Pg.908]

Grignard and alkyl lithium reagents were found to add to the carbonyl group of a tricyclic vinylogous amide. However, the same compound underwent the usual vinylogous reduction with lithium aluminum hydride (712). Grignard additions to di- and trichloroenamines gave a-chloro- and dichloroketones (713). [Pg.427]

There is an early report that thiophene reacts at the 3-position in phenylation with benzenediazonium chloride and aluminum trichloride, but in the Gomberg reaction thiophene has been found to substitute mainly at the 2-position both with p-tolyl and with p-chloro-phenyl radicals.Bcnzothiazole is phenylated at the 2-position in low yield by dibenzoyl peroxide a small quantity of the 4-isomcr is also obtained. ... [Pg.148]

Intermediate arylamidine, 6S, is prepared by the aluminum chloride-catalyzed addition of aniline to the nitrile function of 4-cyanothiazole (67), Amidine, 65, is then converted to its N-chloro analog (69) by means of sodium hypochlorite. On base treatment, this apparently undergoes a nitrene insertion reaction to produce thiabendazole (70), ... [Pg.326]
