Aluminium panels Plate

Panel numbering on acrylic sheet or aluminium anodized plates may be fixed on the front and the rear of each vertical panel for quick identification of each panel section (Figure 13.1).

The work on surface coatings was carried out on mild steel panels to BS1449, Steel Plate, Part IB, CR3/FF and aluminium, 99.9% pure to BS1470, Grade SIC-H8. The adhesive test specimens consisted of flat headed bolts, 12.5 mm diameter, manufactured from mild steel round bar stock to BS970 Part I, stainless steel round bar stock to BS970 Part 1, 1/431/S29 and aluminium 99.9% pure. 

High-temperature coking resistance is checked by the panel coker test where an aluminium plate, held at temperatures ranging from 275 to 350°C, is splashed with lubricant and the deposited coke is weighed and rated. This procedure has many variations including methods to measure the effect of the oxidising effect of fuel oil contamination on lubricant stability. 

Atmospheric corrosion tests were continued for years with number of panels, and to have traceability, each uncoated panel was marked by hole with respect to reference plate made as per standard [3] as shown in Fig 2.5. The reference plate made of Aluminium has identical size of test panels and a hole is made in left hand corner marked as R, which stands for reference mark. Just below this hole, nine holes are made vertically engraving numbers 1-9 and similarly, in the right hand side, again nine holes are made vertically giving numbers 10-90 from top to bottom. At the top of the panel, five holes are made horizontally to represent hundreds.
