If the octane number of the blend is not high enough, it may be raised by increasing the proportion of high octane alkylate, catalytically reformed product, or aromatics in the blend [27]. Or an antiknock compound may be added to accomplish the same thing inexpensively. Use of tetraethyl, or tetra-methyl lead with other additives, has been discontinued in Canada and the United States for two decades and are now almost phased out in most other areas. When these additives were in common use in leaded gasolines, it took... [Pg.615]

Propylene is one of the main building blocks for petrochemicals and for clean fuel alkylate blends. It is used in the production of a wide variety of petrochemical products such as polypropylene, acrylonitrile, cumene, oxo-alcohols, propylene oxide, acrylic acid, isopropyl alcohol, and polygas chemicals. Polypropylene accounts for about half of the world propylene consumption, which consequently drives the demand. Other uses of propylene within a refinery include alkylation, catalytic polymerization, and dimerization for the production of high-octane gasoline blends. In general, propylene is supplied in three separate quality grades refinery ( 70%), chemical ( 92 to 96%), and polymer (99.6%). [Pg.2461]

Recently, Diaz-Mendoza et al. (1998) have studied the catalytic behaviour and the catalyst decay of Beta, RY and USY zeolites. They propose that Lewis acid sites promote the formation of unsaturated compounds (favoring coke formation). However, Bronsted acid sites with intermediate acid strength appear to be appropiate sites for maintaining good alkylation catalytic performance. They observe that the best catalytic performance and the slowest deactivation were achieved with Beta zeolite, followed by RY and USY with low sodium content. However, only butene isomerization was observed over USY zeolite with high sodium content. [Pg.295]
