Cellulose fibers that are partially hydrophobized by alkyl chains as well as cellulose itself align on water surfaces to form two-dimensional crystals, which are quite regular, in the direction of the polymer chain. In case of alkylated cellulose ( hairy rods ) multilayer grids of molecular size can be synkinesized if the direction of the LB plate is changed by 90° in each application (Fig. 4.6.4). Similar hydrophobized polysaccharides have also been used as hydrogel nanoparticles to bind albumin protein in water (Nishikawa et al., 1996)...

Piepaiation of carboy methyl cellulose and the hydroxylated alkyl cellulose ethers utilize dilution - mediated process involving organic diluents such as isopropanol, t-butyl alcohol, acetone, toluene, or dimethyoxy ethane (30). 

Linearly branched polysaccharides, i.e. polymers with a long backbone chain and with many short side chains, such as guaran or alkyl cellulose, have properties which are a combination of those of perfectly linear and of branched molecules. The long backbone chain is responsible for high solution viscosity. The presence of numerous short side chains greatly weakens interactions between the molecules, as shown by the good solubility and rehydration rates of the molecules and by the stability even of highly concentrated solutions.

The NOT operator excludes single search terms from retrieval. But mind its hidden dangers. If the search term is e.g. methyl cellulose and you exclude terms like ethyl cellulose, alkyl cellulose, etc., relevant documents might be forgone, where both methyl cellulose as well as other cellulose ethers are contained. Therefor you should be extremely careful when using the NOT operator. It is advisable to refine the search statement by further AND combinations. In any case, the amount of data to be excluded should be dealt with prior to other operations in order to check via titles, etc. if those documents should really be excluded by the NOT-operator.
