ALKANOLAMINES FROM OLEFIN OXIDES AND AMMONIA

Etlijieiie oxide [75-21-8]y piopjlene oxide [75-56-9] oi butylene oxide [106-88-7] leact widi ammonia to produce alkaiiolamiiies (Table 1). Edianolamiiies, NH3 (CoH OH) (jx = 1, 2,3, mono-, di-, and tri-), are derived from the reaction ot ammonia with ethjdene oxide. Isopropanolamines, [Pg.3]

j (CH CHOHCH3 ) (mono-, di-, and tii-), result from the reaction ot ammonia with propjiene oxide. Secondary l)utanolamines, [Pg.3]

Etbanolamines have been conmieicially available for over 50 years and isopropanolamines, for over 40 years. rcc-Butanolainines have been prepared in research quantities, but are not available coinniercially. Primary butanolamines, eg, 2-amino-l-butanol [96-20-Sj ate made by a different chemical route [Pg.3]

A variety of substituted alkanolamines are also available commercially, but have not reached tlie volume popularity of the etlianolamines and isopropanolamines (see Table 2). [Pg.3]
