Alignment relaxation

If the excited molecules undergo disorienting collisions before emitting light, then the bpQ of various rank K relax at different rates T/c. The anisotropy of polarization % permits us to find the ratio between the population relaxation rate To and that of the alignment relaxation r2 ... [Pg.41]

However, the alignment relaxation constant 72 may be measured separately by means of the method of laser-interrogated dichroism, as discussed in the preceding Section (Section 3.5]. Let us assume that in the scheme shown in Fig. 3.17 the strong field Eg is interrupted at time ... [Pg.94]

Finally, two theoretical papers should be mentioned. The first [141] concerns orientation and alignment relaxation and transfer in resonant transitions 2S1/2-2P1/2, 2P3/2, and the second [142] deals with non-resonant excitation transfer for spinless S-P states. All results obtained refer to the simple dipole-dipole interaction, proportional to R3. [Pg.372]

Tjq—spin alignment relaxation—together with Tj measurement allows the determination of a unique motional model. [Pg.98]

Alignment relaxation was analyzed by means of laser pulse experiments. The time constants are 110 msec for the H - P (random) change by the unpolarized UV excitation, 90msec for the H - P (homogeneous) change by... [Pg.457]

In polymers one will often particularly be interested in very slow dynamic processes. The solid echo technique just described is still limited by the transverse relaxation time T being of the order of a few ps at most. The ultimate limitation in every NMR experiment however, is not T but the longitudinal relaxation time T, which for 2H in solid polymers typically is much longer, being in the range 10 ms to 10 s. The spin alignment technique (20) circumvents transverse relaxation and is limited by Tx only, thus ultraslow motions become accessible of experiment. [Pg.33]

Optical and electro-optical behavior of side-chain liquid crystalline polymers are described 350-351>. The effect of flexible siloxane spacers on the phase properties and electric field effects were determined. Rheological properties of siloxane containing liquid crystalline side-chain polymers were studied as a function of shear rate and temperature 352). The effect of cooling rate on the alignment of a siloxane based side-chain liquid crystalline copolymer was investigated 353). It was shown that the dielectric relaxation behavior of the polymers varied in a systematic manner with the rate at which the material was cooled from its isotropic phase. [Pg.49]

Last but not least, two epoch-marking technologies have been successfully implemented in 1989 and 1994 active optics, with the 3.5 m ESO New Technology Telescope (NTT), and segmentation, with the 10 m Keck. In the former, real-time adjustments of the primary mirror support forces and of the alignment of the secondary mirror guarantee consistent, optimal performance, and allow relaxation of opto-mechanical fabrication tolerances. These adjustments being derived from wavefront analysis of off-axis stellar sources located outside the scientihc held of view, imply minimal operational overheads at the beneht of reliable, substantial performance improvement... [Pg.35]

It should be stressed that below a critical (Blocking) temperature (Tg) S.P. clusters will have a slow relaxation time (t) at which their net moment will align so-to-speak "parallel" to H, and thus appear to behave as if they had an apparent "bulk-like" ferromagnetic behavior. This aspect will result in a hysteresis or an "apparent" ferromagnetic behavior. Conversely, above the Tg, the hysteresis will disappear and the clusters will show a unique curve with no hysteresis (Fig. 2). [Pg.501]
