Air Quality Act

The Clean Air Amendments to the Air Quality Act and the Federal Water Pollution Control Act Amendments were enacted to protect the environment. They have directly affected the operations of chemical firms, particularly those of research and development. [Pg.67]

Meanwhile the federal government had not been idle, and its activities betray a similar shift to a more centralized approach to environmental matters. The Federal Clean Air Act of 1963, its amendments in 1965, and the Air Quality Acts of 1967 and 1970 put the federal government prominently into the picture. The 1970 legislation requires the implementing of ambient air standards set by the federal Environmental Protection Agency. A strict and tight enforcement schedule is intended to solve the nation s pollution problems from stationary sources in three to five years. [Pg.174]

We live in a new environmental era. The number and complexity of environmental regulations have grown dramatically in the past two decades and will continue through the turn of the century. In the United States, the first environmental regulation affecting the quality of air came with the Federal Air Pollution Control Act of 1955, then with the Clean Air Act of 1963. The subsequent ones include the Motor Vehicle Air Pollution Control Act of 1965, the Air Quality Act of 1967, and the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1970. [Pg.389]

In Canada, Environment Canada, which was created in 1971, is the organization responsible for environmental regulation and protection. Environment Canada is divided into five Regional Offices Ontario, Atlantic, Prairie and Northern Region, Quebec, and Pacific and Yukon. Its environmental services are administered through the Canadian Environment Protection Act (CEPA) which includes the Air Quality Act, the Canadian Water Act, the Ocean Dumping Act, the Environment Contaminant Act, and the Department of the Environment Act. CEPA was recently amended (September 1999), placing more emphasis on pollution prevention and toxic substances. It also provides an increased enforcement authority and resources to carry out necessary research and development activities. [Pg.1303]

Environmental protection agency (EPA) n. Charged by the clean air amendments of 1970 to the air quality act of 1967 with establishing minimum air quality standards which must be incorporated in regional state standards. These standards are essentially similar to those first promulgated by the Los Angeles region of California in their Rule 66. [Pg.362]

Air) Major Federal Statutes The Air Quality Act 1967, (Clean Air Act Amendments) 1970 and 1977, and the Clean Air Act of 1990. These established Federal and State emission control regimes and air quality standards for main airborne pollutants such as carbon monoxide and lead etc. [Pg.72]
