Performance Data for Direct-Heat Tray Dryers A standard two-truck diyer is illustrated in Fig. 12-48. Adjustable baffles or a perforated distribution plate is normally employed to develop 0.3 to 1.3 cm of water-pressure drop at the wall through which air enters the truck enclosure. This will enhance the uniformity of air distribution, from top to bottom, among the trays. In three (or more) truck ovens, air-reheat coils may be placed between trucks if the evaporative load is high. Means for reversing air-flow direction may also be provided in multiple-truck units. 

What instruments would you use to measure air flow direction and intensity in an indoor air quality audit. 

Room overpressure can conveniently be tested during this period. Produce a single line sketch of the conditioned space(s) including doorways. Test for air-flow direction with hand smoke tubes, both at the top and bottom of closed doors, and record the direction of flow. Crack the doors open if fully sealed. 

Figure 23.3 shows axial normalized static pressure P/Pt (where P is the static pressure and Pt is the pressure in the preheater) distributions on the combustor walls for the test runs No. 9 (elliptic nozzles) and No. 10 (round nozzles). In this test, kerosene was barbotated with air and fuel was injected at an angle of 45° relative to the main-stream air flow direction throughout tube-micropylons. The flow in the combustor remained supersonic in test runs No. 9 and No. 10 over the range of ER given in Table 23.2. 

This conclusion is confirmed by the calculation of the combustion-induced pressure-area integrals for both types of nozzles (Fig. 23.9). It follows from comparison of Figs. 23.6 and 23.9 that tube-micropylons with injection at an angle of 45° relative to the main-stream air flow direction provide better performance than fin-pylons with co-flow injection.

An additional form of air-conditioning is concerned with the removal of particulates, such as dust, microorganisms and allergens, from the inspired air. The large cross-sectional area of the nasal cavity and relatively low air velocities are ideal for particle deposition, as is the turbulence caused beyond constrictions where changes in air flow direction occur. The efficiency of particle removal from the air-stream is dependent on a number of factors including the aerodynamic diameter of the inhaled particles ...

Solution (a) Because the frequency separation of a sideband from the main peak is equal to the spin rate, the latter must also be 58 Hz. (b) Varying the spin rate (by adjusting an air flow directed at the spinner paddle) causes spinning sidebands to shift position accordingly.
