Agitation treatment

Once filling was completed, the aeration and agitation treatment was started in the 2 purpose-built tanks, while in the other 2 tanks the slur ry was left undisturbed. [Pg.279]

Bench-top testing will allow variation in chemical type and dosage, temperature, pressure, agitation, treatment time, electrical input (portable electric desalters only), and wash-water or diluent addition. Variations in temperature and pressure will not allow simulation of high pressures and temperatures. The bench-scale tests imply that a batch treatment of the emulsion is used to determine treating chemicals for a dynamic continuous treating system. Thus, results will have limitations even if the parameters of the test procedure are as accurate as possible. [Pg.335]

The protein sources, a soybean protein isolate (Promine F, Central Soya, Chic.) and a rapeseed protein concentrate (prepared by FRI-71 process at the Food Research Institute, Agriculture Canada, Ottawa) were suspended (10% W/V) in 0.1 N NaOH and heated at 60 C for 4 or 8 h with continuous agitation. Treatment was stopped by the rapid addition of 6 N HCl followed by cooling, adjustment of pH to 4.5, and centrifugation for 15 min at... [Pg.415]

Prior to about 1920, flotation procedures were rather crude and rested primarily on the observation that copper and lead-zinc ore pulps (crushed ore mixed with water) could be benefacted (improved in mineral content) by treatment with large amounts of fatty and oily materials. The mineral particles collected in the oily layer and thus could be separated from the gangue and the water. Since then, oil flotation has been largely replaced by froth or foam flotation. Here, only minor amounts of oil or surfactant are used and a froth is formed by agitating or bubbling air through the suspension. The oily froth or foam is concentrated in mineral particles and can be skimmed off as shown schematically in Fig. XIII-4. [Pg.472]

The function of aeration in a wastewater treatment system is to maintain an aerobic condition. Water, upon exposure to air, tends to estabUsh an equihbrium concentration of dissolved oxygen (DO). Oxygen absorption is controlled by gas solubiUty and diffusion at the gas—hquid interface. Mechanical or artificial aeration may be utilised to speed up this process. Agitating the water, creating drops or a thin layer, or bubbling air through water speeds up absorption because each increases the surface area at the interface. [Pg.339]

Selected for clinical trials as a compound to calm agitated patients, imipramine was relatively ineffective. However, it was observed to be effective in the treatment of certain depressed patients (38). Early studies on the mechanism of action showed that imipramine potentiates the effects of the catecholamines, primarily norepinephrine. This finding, along with other evidence, led to the hypothesis that the compound exerts its antidepressant effects by elevating norepinephrine levels at central adrenergic synapses. Subsequent studies have shown that the compound is a potent inhibitor of norepinephrine reuptake and, to a lesser extent, the uptake of serotonin, thus fitting the hypothesis that had been developed to explain the antidepressant actions ofMAOIs. [Pg.467]

Ethyl aluminum dichloride (EADC) is used in the rnanufacmre of certain catalysts for making LDPE. Occasionally, the batch operation involving the catalyst production results in an off-spec lot. This off-spec lot is washed from the reactor (impregantor) with water and hexane, and must be sent to a waste disposal facility. The facility treats this waste in a hydrolysis reaction (i.e., with water and mild agitation). If the reaction is exothermic, what are the potential air pollution and fire problems associated with the waste treatment ... [Pg.187]

There was added to 250 ml of a concentrated butyl acetate extract containing 74,000 units of the acid form of penicillin per ml, 50 ml of a butyl acetate solution containing 0.238 g per ml of procaine base. The solution was agitated for one hour. The precipitate which formed was very gummy and not in the form of discrete crystals. This precipitate was crystallized by scratching the side of the vessel and agitating further. After this treatment 18.25 g of crystalline procaine penicillin was obtained which assayed 1010 units per mg representing a yield of 99.6% of the activity contained in the concentrated extract. [Pg.1178]

The following treatment of agitation is restricted to fluids that approximate to Newtonian fluids. As mixing is a complex process, the variables involved are considered together in a... [Pg.28]

Antipsychotic medications are indicated in the treatment of acute and chronic psychotic disorders. These include schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and manic states occurring as part of a bipolar disorder or schizoaffective disorder. The co-adminstration of antipsychotic medication with antidepressants has also been shown to increase the remission rate of severe depressive episodes that are accompanied by psychotic symptoms. Antipsychotic medications are frequently used in the management of agitation associated with delirium, dementia, and toxic effects of both prescribed medications (e.g. L-dopa used in Parkinson s disease) and illicit dtugs (e.g. cocaine, amphetamines, andPCP). They are also indicated in the management of tics that result from Gilles de la Tourette s syndrome, and widely used to control the motor and behavioural manifestations of Huntington s disease. [Pg.183]
