Adsorption operating parameters

The most important removal pathways of PhACs during wastewater treatment are biotransformation/biodegradation and abiotic removal by adsorption to the sludge. The efficiency of their removal at WWTP depends on their physico-chemical properties, especially hydrophobicity and biodegradability, and process operating parameters (i.e., HRT, SRT, and temperature). For certain NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, acetaminophen), high removals (>90%) are consistently reported in literature... [Pg.204]

The sulphate adsorption and desorption processes run cyclically by supplying brine and water to the resin column under automatic control. A number of optional operation parameters are available. [Pg.168]

The Wheeler equation seems to be very simple with only one adjustable parameter k. However it has been discovered that it is difficult to correlate to operating parameters, mainly the flow rate Q. In addition, research conducted in other fields of adsorption such as volatile organic compounds adsorption for air purification, have shown that the breakthrough front is usually not symmetrical. In this case, it is useless to try to correlate k. ... [Pg.164]

This parameter is frequently used in ion-exchange and adsorption operations in fixed-beds and it is frequently called relative volumetric flow rate ... [Pg.93]

Diffusion-type models are two-parameter models, involving kt or Ds and La, while BDST models are one-parameter models, involving only 0, as gmax is an experimentally derived parameter. The determination of La requires the whole experimental equilibrium curve, and in case of sigmoidal or other non-Langmiur or Freundlich-type isotherms, these models are unusable. From this point of view, BDST models are more easily applied in adsorption operations, at least as a first approximation. [Pg.329]

The major concern is that the character of the sample is not changed in the injection port, the column, or the detector prior to its actual detection. Thermal decomposition, catalyzed or thermal reaction, and adsorption of part or all of the sample will contribute to error in the analysis. Problems such as these may be determined by using the chromatograph itself first to detect possible problems by unexpected results and then confirmation of the problem by variation of the actual operating parameters of the chromatograph. [Pg.209]

Representative values and ranges of operating parameters are summarized in Table 15.3. Cycle times for some adsorptions are adjusted to work shift length, usually multiples of 8 hr, with valve adjustments made by hand. When cycle times are short, as for solvent recovery, automatic opening and closing of valves is necessary. [Pg.506]

The scope of the following chapter will be an attempt to identify system parameters limiting the efficiency of fluidized bed adsorption and to define operating parameters, e.g. adsorbent design, flow rate, column geometry, and... [Pg.201]

While much has been learned about the role and selection of the operation parameters in displacement chrcmatography (60-66), little is known yet about the rules of displacer selection and the means available to control the selectivity of the separation. The paucity of well characterized displacers and the lack of knowledge of the solute adsorption isotherms hinder most strongly the wider acceptance and use of displacement chromatography. In most cases, displacer selection is still done by trial-and-error. In the majority of modem displacement chromatographic publications a reversed-phase system was used to separate small polar molecules, antibiotics, oligopeptides and small proteins (52-66). [Pg.183]

It is beyond the scope of this chapter to give details of the technology for the separation of antibodies. Instead, first some basis is presented and then how liquid chromatography is usable for the adsorption, separation, and purification of antibodies is explained. Method development phases such as, for instance, resin screening, optimization of running conditions, flow sheeting, operational parameters for productivity optimization, and the choice of system components, will not be detailed here. For general reviews, see Refs. 71 and 72. [Pg.557]

These data clearly indicate that the same factor, which is not included as an operational parameter, has an important role at the beginning of plasma polymerization in a closed-system reactor and in a flow system. That is the change of gas phase on the inception of discharge or the creation of luminous gas phase described in Chapter 3. This factor is further influenced by the extent of adsorption or condensation of gas on the surface before discharge is initiated, i.e., the condensability of monomer and the gas mixing time have significant influence on the initial deposition rate. [Pg.255]

With this experiment, the proper type of adsorbent and the amount of impregnation was determined, and the operation parameter such as adsorption / desorption / cooling area ratio, rotational speed, required size of VOC adsorbing honeycomb rotor was designed... [Pg.286]
