Additive manufacturing processes

In addition to the multitude of OSHA requirements listed in 29 CFR, Sections 1903, 1904, and 1910 (Subparts A-Z), that apply to all industries in general, the following sections of 29 CFR 1910 have particular impact on colorant and additive manufacturing processes.

The former method is an additive manufacturing process that employs liquid resins and high-intensity light beams to build 3D microstructures, a technique widely used in rapid prototyping. The photo-induced cross-linking happens upon the exposure of the liquid resin.

A thick-film circuit is a type of additive manufacturing process. If an organic resin matrix is used, the conductor can be flexible, and this process has been applied in flexible circuits. 

For certain uses of Zerodur , blanks with special geometries are to be manufactured, e.g., blanks with large volumes and/or extremely thin walls. For this purpose, special and/or additional manufacturing processes and equipment as compared to conventional production (see Sect. 4.2) must be used. The development tasks and the solutions for the manufacturing are described in the following. 

The term rapid tooling developed in the 90s when the additive manufacturing processes, which until then were exclusively used for the production of positive plastic prototypes, were also used for the production of negatives, which means cavities, or with a generous interpretation, molds. Today, the term rapid tooling has three related, but different meanings ...
