Catalytic hydration and alcoholation of unsaturated compounds such as alkenes or alkynes would be a high value-adding step in the synthesis of compounds of complicated structure as well as in the large-scale production of industrially useful simple compounds. The activation of the O-H bond of water, alcohol, or carboxylic acid by transihon metals is relevant to a variety of such catalytic processes. [Pg.195]

Roztocki, N. and Needy, K.L. (1998) An integrated activity-based costing and economic value added system as an engineering management tool for manufacturers. ASEM National Conference Proceedings, Virginia Beach, 1-3 October 1998, pp. 77-84. [Pg.18]

Catalysts are so important in chemical industry that combinatorial-type approaches will certainly be utilized as tools in the identification and optimization of both heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysts. These are, in many cases, high value-added, commercially important materials. In any research activity it makes sense to remove any choke points that impede progress. However, many engineering considerations are important in producing commercial catalytic processes thus, combinatorial-type approaches are unlikely to be a panacea. Still, a variety of unanticipated discoveries may result from various efforts that are under way. [Pg.173]

To achieve this goal, MED restructured its operations, concentrating on manufacturing, work force, and internal group structures. The first step was to achieve a significant reduction of manufacturing capacity. To do this, the company reduced the scope of the activities that were handled internally. Many low-value-added steps - such as basic parts or cable manufacturing - were outsourced. [Pg.24]

In 2002, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer requested the Productivity Commission, the government s review and advisory body on microeconomic policy and regulation, to investigate the rationale, effectiveness and efficiency of the programme. The commission s report recommended that there should be a programme to follow PUP but that it should be modified to be oriented to reward only R D investment, not production value-adding activity. [Pg.658]

In fact, HYPOl s fault was not surprising if one relates its framework (HYPOl was composed by one ad hoc defined aromatic-nitrogen-with-lone-pair vectorial feature to simulate the coordination interaction of azole inhibitors with the iron atom of the enzyme protoporphyrin system an three aromatic rings [34]) to the chemical structure and antifungal activity of the new compounds. The activity values of these molecules, in fact, were revealed to be strongly dependent on the presence of a hydrophobic substituent (possibly aliphatic) on... [Pg.270]

Outsourcing by chemical producers as chemical producers faced up to increasing competition over the past decades, they attempted not only to expand their market positions geographically, but also to improve operational efficiency by focusing on their core activities. As a result, suppliers have continuously outsourced sales and logistics functions as well as related value-added services to third-party distributors. [Pg.153]
