Activation outer shell component

Complex multi-component catalysts were studied by Wolfs et al., [211, 351], The catalysts had the general composition Me Me BiMo Oso-The small fraction of Bi-cations present in these catalysts appears sufficient to achieve an active and very selective catalyst. The authors suggested that the catalytic qualities are connected with the presence of an outer shell of Bi2Mo06 around a nucleus of other molybdates. However,... [Pg.184]

Catalysts are manufactured by various methods (such as precipitation, extrusion and spray drying) in the form of cylinders, rings, multi-lobed extru-dates and other shapes. They range in size from a few millimetres to several centimetres small spheres are used in fluidized bed reactors. Active phases can be dispersed on the pre-shaped support by several methods such as by impregnation of a solution of the active components. Alternatively the catalysts can be made by the extrusion of mixtures of solid components the support, active phase, and binder. For some reactions that are diffusion limited, the catalyt-ically active species are not uniformly distributed instead they are deposited on the outer shell of the catalyst particle (egg-shell catalysts), since those inside the particle cannot be involved in the reaction. [Pg.277]

Cholesterol is one of the most highly recognized molecules in human biology, in part because of a direct relationship between its concentrations in blood and tissues and the development of atherosclerotic vascular disease Cholesterol, which is transported in the blood in Upoproteins because of its absolute insolubility in water, serves as a stabilizing component of cell membranes and as a precursor of the bile salts and steroid hormones. Precursors of cholesterol are converted to ubiquinone, dolichol, and, in the skin, to cholecalciferol, the active form of vitamin D. As a major component of blood lipoproteins, cholesterol can appear in its free, unesterifiedform in the outer shell of these macromolecules and as cholesterol esters in the lipoprotein core. [Pg.619]

In addition, multistep impregnation has been investigated in order to produce different IL film distributions in which the IL - and thereby the catalyst dissolved in it - is located either on the outer shell or on the inner core of the support material. The distribution of the active components on the support can be obtained by the appropriate combination of process parameters, allowing tailor-made catalysts or adsorbents. [Pg.81]

Chitosan is a second abundant heteropolysaccharide composed of /3-[l-4]-2-deoxy-2-amino and -2-acetamino D-glucopyranose units [31]. Chitosan is the partial deacetylated (involving alkaline hydrolysis] product of chitin. Chltln is the main component of outer skeleton of small insects, cuticles, and the shells of shrimp, crab, lobster, etc. Chitosan has been expansively investigated in the pharmaceutical industries for the development of various sustained and controlled release drug delivery systems due to its versatile biological activity [as food and non-food items] and excellent biocompatibility. Hirano [22] conducted an experiment with both healthy and infected skin and found the LD50 in case of orally administered mouse to be [>16 g/kg]. Wu et al. [76] worked on... [Pg.533]
