Hydroxyl Acrylic Resins [13] AJlyl alcohol and allyl alkoxylate have l n incorporated into hydroxyl acrylic resins to provide the pendant hydroxyl groups for crosslinking reaction. The resins are crosslinked with melamine or an isocyanate to form acrylic-melamine coatings or acrylic-polyurethane coatings, respectively. The coatings can be used as automotive topcoat or other high performance industrial coatings. [Pg.154]

A paint grade of cerium sulfide has also been developed. The pigment has been evaluated in several coatings formulations such as automotive refinish (acrylic-isocyanate binders), general industrial solvent-based systems (polyester-melamine bin-... [Pg.40]

In the coatings sector, two pack acrylic isocyanate technology came to prominence in the 1960 s. However, it was during the 1970 s and 80 s that this product family was observed deeply to penetrate the coatings markets in Europe, USA Japan. This commercial development can be attributed to two main factors. The first is the urethane linkage which is formed at ambient temperatures by the reaction between the acrylic polyol and the isocyanate prepolymer, as shown in Figure 5-1. [Pg.289]

The dibutyl tin dilaurate is a catalyst for the OH/NCO reaction, and is sufficiently non volatile to remain in the film during solvent flash off. This is a double edged sword as the DBTL will also encourage the degradation of the coating in the presence of UV light and moisture. Hence there is a finite extent to which an acrylic/isocyanate formulation can be accelerated without compromising durability. [Pg.318]

The curing of a coating will not only depend on the chemistry, but also on the application in which it is utilised. In general, like 2K acrylic/isocyanate systems, the non-isocyanate acrylic must display good cure under ambient temperature and low bake (60-80°C) conditions. The minimum cure requirements, specific to the main end use sectors, have been summarised in table 6-2 ... [Pg.336]
