Acrylic adhesives suppliers

A recent reference [1] lists twenty suppliers of structural acrylic adhesives. Many other companies have been involved in this area, and it is often felt that acrylic adhesives have unrealized technical potential [2]. Acrylic adhesives are not commonly found in the consumer market, but fill an important niche there in the bonding of rear view mirrors to windshields in automobiles. 

Like most adhesive types, aeryhc adhesives do not have an indefinite shelf life after manufacture. Typieally suppliers of acrylic adhesives list shelf lives of at least three months, with some as long as a year. 

Company literature from several adhesive suppliers is currently available that lists UV curable and visible light curing acrylic adhesives as part of their product package. This type of acrylic adhesive is being used successfully in polycarbonate lens bonding. 

UV-curing adhesives are available in a number of chemical systems, most of which are polymer based. These systems include acrylics and acrylates, epoxies, polyurethanes, polyesters, silicones, and vinyl and vinyl esters. The most common UV-curable adhesive is the acrylics. Specially modified acrylic and epoxy adhesives can be cured rapidly by UV radiation. In the case of epoxy adhesives, the adhesives can be pre-irradiated after application to the substrate before closing the bond line. These adhesive systems are offered by most major suppliers. ... 

In formulating epoxy resin via-fill ink, one must consider the adhesion between the fill material and the copper plating in the hole barrel. Normally it may seem suitable to use a material that does not include an acrylic component. However, some supphers have found it more beneficial to add an acryhc component because of its resistance to moisture absorption. They determined that it would be preferable to improve the ink s adhesion to copper by pretreatment with a black oxide or chemical etching process.This is similar to the approach taken by many dielectric suppliers. 

Paint systems differ in their cure chemistry and ingredient content, such as melamine, polyester, acrylic, urethane, etc. Some work has been done on determining the results with different paint systems (urethane versus melamine) or similar paint systems from different suppliers, but certainly not as extensive as the work that has been done with adhesion promoter and paint systems on TPOs.
