Other acetylene-terminated resins (ATR) similar to ATS as shown in Eq. 5 have also been prepared (13, 15). The cured... [Pg.7]

In recent years acetylene terminated resins (AT-resins) have shown promise in the area of high temperature applications and are possible replacements for state-of-the-art epoxy resin systems where humidity exposure is expected. Acetylene terminated resins have two important advantages over previously developed systems ... [Pg.18]

Kinetics o Acetylene-Terminated Resin Cure and Its Effects on Dynamic Mechanical Properties... [Pg.49]

Kinetics of the cure of acetylene terminated resins can be obtained by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) of the reaction exotherm and by disappearance of the ethynyl band in the infrared spectrum. [Pg.49]

Recent advances in acetylene terminated resin technology have provided a family of new high performance structural materials (U2). One member of this family, the acetylene terminated sulfone ( TS) 3) has been made available in sufficient quantities to allow research efforts on characterization and determination of the effects of structure on physical and mechanical properties ( - ). In a companion paper (t) the effects of environment on the cure of ATS was reported. This paper reports... [Pg.49]

NMR spectroscopy and in particular solid-state NMR spectroscopy proved to be a powerful method for studying the mechanism and extent of reaction in complex poly(imide) materials. In particular, during the cure of BMI resins, careful use of C CPMAS NMR indicated that measurements of the extent of cure by DSC were significantly overestimated [86, 87]. This article demonstrates that NMR spectroscopy has been able to characterize the structure of condensation poly(imide)s and, more successfully, the cure of BMI, PMR and acetylene-terminated resins. [Pg.487]

The c/s-dihydroxylation reaction catalyzed by these dioxygenases is typically highly enantioselective (often >98% ee) and, as a result, has proven particularly useful as a source of chiral synthetic intermediates (2,4). Chiral cis-dihydrodiols have been made available commercially and a practical laboratory procedure for the oxidation of chlorobenzene to IS, 2S)-3-chlorocyclohexa-3,5-diene-l,2-c diol by a mutant strain of Pseudomonas putida has been published (6). Transformation with whole cells can be achieved either by mutant strains that lack the second enzyme in the aromatic catabolic pathway, cw-dihydrodiol dehydrogenase (E.C. 1.3.1.19), or by recombinant strains expressing the cloned dioxygenase. This biocatalytic process is scalable, and has been used to synthesize polymer precursors such as 3-hydroxyphenylacetylene, an intermediate in the production of acetylene-terminated resins (7). A synthesis of polyphenylene was developed by ICI whereby ftie product of enzymatic benzene dioxygenation, c/s-cyclohexa-3,5-diene-1,2-diol, was acetylated and polymerized as shown in Scheme 2 (8). [Pg.435]

For durable bonds, adhesives should be tough. However, many high temperature adhesives (addition-type polyimides, bismaleimides (BMI), and acetylene-terminated resins) are brittle and need to be toughened by elastomers. [Pg.676]

In fact all these properties were unavailable in conventional materials but may be covered by aromatic and heterocyclic Unear and thermosetting resins such as acetylene terminated resins, bismaleimides, polyetherimides, polyamide-imides, polybenzimidazoles, pol3dmides, polyetherketones, pol3qjhenylquinoxalines, polyphenylensulfides, polysulfones derivatives, polyst5nylp3nidines, fluoropol3mers, silicones, etc. [Pg.252]
