Calculate Apj, ATf, ATj, and n for solutions which are 1% by weight in benzene of solutes for which M = 10 and 10 . Assume that these solutions are adequately described by dilute ideal solution expressions. Consult a handbook for the physical properties of benzene. Comment on the significance of the results with respect to the feasibility of these various methods for the determination of M for solutes of high and low molecular weight. [Pg.547]

The use of fragrant substances has been continuous, and the use of Hpids or emoUients for anointing is fully documented in historical writings. However, it is probably not justifiable to identify the recipes passed on from antiquity as cosmetics. The compositions based on folklore and mysticism were replaced by more scientifically acceptable products beginning about 1875. The first edition of a handbook of cosmetic chemistry pubHshed in 1920 included a foreword noting that scientific cosmetic chemistry did not exist prior to that pubHcation (1). A few years later, texts on cosmetic chemistry and other formularies became available (2). [Pg.285]

Smaller miUs, up to about 0.19-m (50-gal) capacity, are made in one piece with a cover. U.S. Stoneware Co. makes these in wear-resistant Burundum-fortified ceramic and also makes larger three-piece units, in a metal protective case, up to 0.8-m (210-gal) capacity. A handbook on pebble miUing is available from Paiil O. Abbe, Inc., Little FaUs, NJ. [Pg.1850]

There are extensive publications on many individual problems together with practical instmctions. However, it was difficult for the technologist in Germany to master the subject because no comprehensive up-to-date publication was available in German. The Subcommittee for Corrosion of DVGW instigated the publication of a handbook of cathodic protection, and a number of members offered their cooperation as authors of individual chapters. [Pg.582]

Since data have been collated from a variety of sources, and tend to be presented in mixed units, and because rapid conversion of units is an advantage in many on-site situations, conversion tables are included in Chapter 18. Finally, since safety with chemicals cannot be addressed exhaustively in a handbook, selected sources of reliable current information on chemical hazards and their control are listed in Chapter 19. [Pg.9]
