Zinc uroporphyrin

The important role of chlorophylls in photosynthesis inspired people looking for ways to apply these natural porphyrins in DSSC as light harvesting sensitizers. The use of zinc and antimony metallo-uroporphyrins M-UP (105) as photosensitizers... [Pg.265]

Phthalocyanines and metallophthalocyanines have been intensively studied as discotic liquid crystals, but porphyrins have received less attention. The first examples of porphyrin discotic phases were based on naturally occurring uroporphyrins but showed a very narrow discotic LC range. However, octa—substituted porphyrins can show discotic meso-phases over a broad temperature range, the LC phase being stabilised by metal insertion into the porphyrin, e.g. zinc. These materials are organic semiconductors whose LC properties allow them to form highly ordered thin films in the solid state. Emission, excitation and absorption spectra in... [Pg.241]

The structural volume changes for triplet formation of metal-free uroporphyrin (-0.45 cm moL ) and of its zinc complex (-1.1 cm moL ), as well as the structural volume changes due to electrostriction after electron transfer from Zn-uroporphyrin to a quinone (-4.4 cm moL ). were estimated in aqueous solutions. The entropy change due to ion formation was then estimated as -202 kJ moL K for the latter system. [Pg.1130]
