Two different ecotypes of Zataria multiflora Boiss, Lamiaceae, were tested in the study conducted by Saharkhiz et al. (2010). Ecotype B had similar constituents but in lower concentrations this also explains why ecotype A was more successful in inhibiting the germination and growth of the tested weeds, which were Hordeum spontaneum Koch, Secale cereale, A. retroflexus, and Cynodon dactylon. [Pg.690]

In a double-blind, randomized study, 60 patients with RAS received either 30 mL of an oral mouthwash composed of 60 mg of Zataria multiflora essential oil in an aqueous-alcoholic solution or placebo thrice daily for 4 weeks. In the treatment group, 83% of patients responded well while 17% reported a deterioration of their condition. This was compared with 13% and 87% for the placebo group, respectively. A significant clinical improvement with regard to less pain and shorter duration of the condition was found in the essential oil group (Mansoori et al., 2002). [Pg.333]

Carvacrol elicits an inhibitory effect on histamine receptors, as Boskabady et al. [95] report. They examined the effect of an aqueous-ethanoUc extract of Zataria multiflora Boiss (Labiatae) and its constituent carvacrol on HI (histamine 1) receptors in tracheal chains of guinea pigs. The results crmfirmed the inhibitory effect of both extract and carvacrol on HI receptors with no significant difference when different concentrations of extract and carvacrol where applied. [Pg.4134]
