X-ray scattering cross-section

In contrast to the case of X-ray scattering, cross sections for low-energy electrons from atoms are large (on the order of 10 A2/atom). [Pg.21]

Photons are scattered by the electrons around an atom heavier atoms, with more electrons, scatter much more strongly than light atoms. To emphasise this trend some X-ray scattering cross sections (based on the Thomson free electron cross section, oj == 0.7 bam) are given below. These can be compared with the neutron cross sections given in Appendix 1. [Pg.20]

The x-ray scattering cross section is energy dependent and is given by... [Pg.8115]

The elastic X-ray scattering cross-section may be generally written as... [Pg.13]

Beryllium has a high x-ray permeabiUty approximately seventeen times greater than that of aluminum. Natural beryUium contains 100% of the Be isotope. The principal isotopes and respective half-life are Be, 0.4 s Be, 53 d Be, 10 5 Be, stable Be, 2.5 x 10 yr. Beryllium can serve as a neutron source through either the (Oi,n) or (n,2n) reactions. Beryllium has alow (9 x 10 ° m°) absorption cross-section and a high (6 x 10 ° m°) scatter cross-section for thermal neutrons making it useful as a moderator and reflector in nuclear reactors (qv). Such appHcation has been limited, however, because of gas-producing reactions and the reactivity of beryUium toward high temperature water. [Pg.66]

Small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), circular dichroism (CD), and UV spectroscopy at different temperatures were used to investigate the nature of calf-thymus DNA in aqueous solution, in the presence of [Me Sn] " (n = 1-3) species. The results demonstrate that the [MeSn(IV)] moiety does not influence the structure and conformation of the DNA double helix, and does not degrade DNA, as indicated by agarose gel electrophoresis. Inter alia, the radii of gyration, Rg, of the cross section of native calf-thymus DNA, determined by SAXS in aqueous solution in the presence of [Me Sn] " (n = 1-3) species are constant and independent of the nature and concentration of the [Me Sn] species. [Pg.383]

PP-structural foam mouldings were produced on an injection moulding machine in a pre-pressurised mould cavity by the classical low-pressure process and an alternative low-pressure process. Melt temperature, injection direction and sprae diameter were varied. Cross-sections cut from the middle of the small cylinder in longitudenal orientation were investigated by site-resolved X-ray scattering. Morphological properties were investigated. 4 refs. [Pg.37]
