Working with your reading

Think about what kinds of things you normally read (novels, reports, newspapers, magazines). Firstly, choose a type of reading that is most familiar to you. Secondly, choose a book or article that you are having to read at the moment for your studies. You are going to think about the contrast between these two pieces of text. [Pg.56]

When you have done the initial reading and attempted to answer the Active Reading questions, you are ready for class. In class your teacher will help you to better understand these ideas. Then you will work with your classmates on the Team Learning Worksheets, teaching and learning from each other. The Team Learning Worksheets enable you to check your understanding with the help of other members of your class. [Pg.16]

The next step is to learn some chemistry. Depending on your background, you may need to read some or all of the essays that describe how to work with modeling data (this information quickly becomes second-nature, especially if you make working these problems part of your regular study routine). Then tackle the problems beginning with Chapter 1. [Pg.2]

Importance of Interfaces. At one time, modularity in the software world was principally motivated by the need to divide a big job into manageable tasks. The interfaces of your module worked with the modules of the people in the neighboring cubicles it was easy to discuss any issues about the interfaces. In a culture that reuses the pieces, you are unlikely to know all the components that yours will connect to You must therefore be much more careful about your interface definitions (and about reading those of others). [Pg.658]

The chronological resume format is the most popular. This format requires you to list your educational background and employment history in reverse chronological order (by date), starting with your most recent schooling and job. Should you choose to incorporate colored ink or papers, it s an excellent strategy to work with a resume-preparation specialist or a graphic designer to ensure your selections will have the most positive impact possible. The term sheet is just a sketch of the final agreement and so there is much room for manoeuvre as the negotiation is planned. [Pg.8]

The best way to learn organic chemistry is to use it. You will certainly need to read and reread all the material in the chapter, but this level of understanding is just the beginning. Problems are provided so you can work with the ideas, applying them to new compounds and new reactions that you have never seen before. By working problems, you force yourself to use the material and fill in the gaps in your understanding. You also increase your level of self-confidence and your ability to do well on exams. [Pg.36]
